How often do you need to clean the closet
The frequency of cleaning is determined by the degree and speed of the disorder. However, disassembling the resulting blockages at regular intervals is not the best strategy.
It is much more efficient to develop your own system that allows you to:
- spend less time choosing clothes;
- use all the filling of the wardrobe, and not the average 15%, which are in the field of visibility and free access;
- maintain a constant order in the closet.
At the same time, at the end of each season, it is worth carrying out a large-scale cleaning, the purpose of which is not so much cleaning as redistribution according to the frequency of use. Things that are no longer useful in the current season should be removed further away, and actively used ones should be put closer. At the same time, you can throw away what is not needed, as well as understand what things need to be purchased.
How to clean up your wardrobe
We clean the closet
First, you need to completely empty the cabinet from its contents. All clothes, linen, shoes, bags, jewelry, boxes, etc. must be placed so that everything can be seen. If some of the things are stored in another place, then they should also be brought. An empty cabinet should be washed thoroughly and left to ventilate.
We go through the wardrobe
All available things must be divided into several large groups. The first is things that will definitely no longer be used. They can be thrown away, sold, or given to someone, depending on their condition. This group includes the following clothes:
- too small;
- too big;
- not used for a long time;
- completely spoiled;
- causing discomfort when wearing, physical or psychological;
- not attractive (earlier she could be liked, but tastes tend to change over time);
- not suitable for anything;
- not reaching the owner.
Even if the item is new, beautiful and of high quality, but looks bad or is inconvenient to wear, you should definitely get rid of it.
The next group includes things that subjectively paint their owner. This includes the following clothing:
- uplifting even on a bad day;
- time-tested and well-proven in various situations;
- makes you feel attractive and confident;
- combined with at least two other things from the wardrobe;
- in good condition and not requiring repair;
- suitable for several occasions in the coming year.
Don't worry if you don't have a lot of such clothes. On the contrary, this is a great opportunity not only to disassemble things, but also to work on the wardrobe, making it really high quality.
The third group includes things, the purpose of which could not be determined. They probably don't like them too much, but they may store some kind of memories that prevent them from being sent for disposal. Or the clothes are not in their best condition, which can be corrected. All such things should be postponed for six months or a year, giving them a probationary period. If during this time they will not be used, then they can be safely thrown away.
You can do something more radical: put all such clothes in a bag, put down a date and put them away for six months. After this period, they should be sorted out again, with a fresh look. Most likely after this, most of the things will go to waste.
If it is psychologically difficult to get rid of unnecessary clothes, then you can break this process into several stages, at each of which you will have to get rid of a small number of elements. For example, throw away five items every month. This nonviolent approach will not only allow you to clean in comfort, but will gradually ease the process of getting rid of.
How to conveniently arrange things
Competent sorting will help simplify the search and selection of clothes. You can sort things according to different criteria, and you should choose the most suitable one for your requests.
By seasons
Initially, all things should be divided according to the seasons and stored separately, in different corners of the cabinet. Those of them that will definitely not be useful for the next six months should be removed to the farthest corner and to the upper shelves. With the change of the season, things simply change places, which allows you to keep the order established in the closet.
By types
This is the most common sorting option. With it, things from certain categories are placed together: trousers, skirts, blouses, T-shirts, socks, belts, and so on. Each group is allocated a separate place in which internal sorting is possible, for example, by color.
The tops of the outfits can be arranged from dark to light, and the lower ones from light to dark. This will allow you to find successful combinations faster. Also, clothes can be divided into shades and laid out in accordance with the alternation of the colors of the rainbow. This method will not only save time on searches, but also cheer up.
So that things of similar shades do not merge with each other, dark and bright clothes can be alternated when stored in a stack.
By kits
When things are just being sorted, they should be divided into two groups: combined with others and not combined. Ideally, the vast majority of clothing should belong to the first group. Based on this, you can decompose all things into basic sets used in different cases: for work, walks, parties, celebrations, sports and so on. Before doing that, though, it's worth trying everything on and making sure the kits really fit together and look good.
How to arrange jewelry and bags
Before placing the bag in the closet, it must be properly prepared. It is also worth familiarizing yourself with certain storage rules:
- completely empty the bag from the contents and thoroughly clean it;
- do not wrinkle or fold the straps, as this will lead to the appearance of creases, which will not be easy to fix in the future;
- protect soft leather bags from contact with objects that can scratch it (for example, with the metal parts of other bags);
- store only when fresh air is available, without using plastic bags;
- do not store near batteries and other heating elements, in the light and in places with high humidity;
- do not wrinkle during storage, as this leads to deformation.
The space of the molded bags can be filled with a folded roll of scarf or crumpled paper. This will avoid deformation.
You can store prepared bags as follows:
- On the top shelf in the closet. Since bags are not changed every day, this method does not cause discomfort. Clutches can be arranged according to the principle of books, tightly adjacent to each other. To avoid damage to large bags, plastic transparent partitions are placed between them.
- In a drawer under the bed or in a closet. This will allow not only to neatly arrange objects, but also to see all of them at once, in order to quickly determine the choice.
- On a hanger. This method is only suitable for storing bags with straps. It should be borne in mind that when they touch, they can scratch and rub against each other, so soft leather bags should be arranged together, and with metal parts - placed separately.
- On the door. For this method, you need to install hooks or use a special strap. This can also be done from the inside of the cabinet door.
- On a hanger for bags (you can use the version for belts). Ideal for small bags with a strap. About ten bags can be placed on one such hanger, and the final composition will not take up much space.
- In cotton bags. Often these bags come with a new bag. If not, then you should give preference to natural fabrics that allow air to pass through.
- At the bottom of the cabinet. If the bottom of the cabinet is free of items, then it can be filled with neatly arranged bags.
- In separate sections. They are provided when arranging a dressing room. This is the ideal option to store your bags in optimal conditions while being able to see them all.
Jewelry has its own storage conditions. These include the following:
- lack of light, high temperatures and moisture;
- the presence of individual packaging with hard walls, covered from the inside with a soft material, for example, cotton, leather or velor;
- lack of interaction with household chemicals and cosmetics.
Any interaction of jewelry with water or chemicals, even with high quality, significantly reduces its service life.
You can use the following methods to store jewelry:
- Organizer. It should contain as many compartments as possible, access to which is not hampered by the presence of locks and buttons.
- Drawer with divider. It is a felt tray with many different sections that fits into a drawer. This is a convenient option for closed storage, in which the jewelry is less dusty. It also makes it easier to maintain order.
- Cabinet door. It will be convenient with a small amount of jewelry, for which it is impractical to allocate a whole box. You can attach special holders, hooks or an organizer with transparent pockets to the door.
- Mirror cabinet. Can be of any size, floor-standing or wall-mounted, depending on your needs. Allows you to comfortably place all the decorations and practically does not take up space.
- Open storage. A variety of hooks, stands and holders are used. They often have original and bizarre shapes.
Features of storage of linen
You can use the following options for storing underwear:
- Shoe boxes. You can use the boxes themselves or their lids, which can be decorated with fabric. They are placed on a shelf in a closet or in a chest of drawers.
- Fabric organizers. They can either look like a simple box or contain various compartments for linen.
Plastic dividers.They can be in the form of partitions or honeycombs. They are inserted into the drawer of the dresser and prevent things from twisting and moving. - Vertical organizers. Suitable if there is no chest of drawers available. They have transparent pockets located one under the other and are hung on a cabinet door or a hanger bar.
- Hangers. If there is a special compartment in the wardrobe for linen, it can be hung on a hanger. You can use both special and just small plastic hangers. The method is optimal for storing bras.
- Covers. They are mainly used for transporting laundry. Keeps it clean and not wrinkled.
For easy storage, laundry can be folded using a variety of techniques.
How to properly store shoes in the closet
When storing shoes for a long time, there are a number of factors to consider:
- the sun's rays should not fall on the shoes, but you should not choose the darkest corner in order to prevent the appearance of mold;
- it is necessary to maintain humidity in the region of 45-55%, for which you can use a humidifier;
- sudden changes in temperature should not be allowed, as this can lead to tarnishing and cracking of shoes;
- do not store in places with a large accumulation of dust, as it clogs the outer surface of the vapor and is not always removable.
Shoes should not be packed in plastic bags, as this creates the wrong microclimate and leads to deterioration of the pair. Better to use cotton bags to ensure air circulation.
You can store shoes in the closet in the following ways:
- In special fabric wardrobe trunks. From above they are covered with a film. In this way, many pairs of shoes can be compactly arranged and placed in the lower part of the cabinet.
- In a plastic cabinet. It contains several compartments and can be installed in a cabinet. The main thing is that the compartments are well ventilated.
- In cardboard or wooden boxes. It is advisable that they do not greatly exceed the size of the shoes.
- In cloth bags. This option is the best space saver and also provides the necessary storage conditions.
- On hangers. Special hangers with a clip will allow you to place high boots in the closet, along with clothes.
- On pull-out shelves. You can organize the storage system in a deep drawer.
- On a shelf with slats. Small shoes can be placed on a shelf attached to the inside of the cabinet door.
When storing winter shoes, you can fill them with paper, which will absorb all possible odors and prevent deformation.
How to use all the space in the closet
Second bar
When choosing a cabinet, you should give preference to the highest models. This will significantly increase its capacity by adding a second hanger bar or pantograph. On the second tier, you can place suits, dresses, blouses and jackets, and on the bottom one - jeans, skirts and sweaters.
Hanging shelves
An interesting tool that allows you to significantly increase the capacity of a cabinet, especially a small one. Usually such shelves have the same fastening as the hangers and are hung on the bar. They can be used to store folded items, shoes or bags.
Baskets and boxes
You can use special wicker or simple wire baskets or plastic containers, which will be conveniently fixed on the inside of the cabinet door or on one of the walls. They can store hats, scarves, gloves, socks or bags.
Floor hanger
This hanger is an addition to the wardrobe. On it are the things ironed from the evening, necessary for the next day. On her clothes do not wrinkle and do not lose their shape. Such hangers can also be double, for two family members.
Using hooks
A small number of hooks placed on the walls of the cabinet or on the door will help to efficiently use all the available space. You can place bags, hats or prepared outfits on them. However, it is important not to overdo it with their number in order to prevent crumpling and damage to things.
Hanging organizer
The hanging organizer is used to store socks, underwear, tights or jewelry. It allows you to unload or replace small boxes. Fastened to the cabinet door or to its outer walls.
How to keep your closet tidy
It is possible to comfortably maintain order in the closet only when an individual storage system has been formed that allows you to fully control the wardrobe. This will allow you to avoid using only a small part of things, as well as save you from the long thinking over the sets of clothes and the search for the closet you need in the bowels. Convenient organization of space will allow you to maintain a constant order.
General rules of clothing care
When caring for textiles, you must follow the general recommendations:
- select the modes of washing, spinning and drying strictly based on the information on the tag;
- observe the temperature regime when washing, drying and ironing;
- do not twist the products during spinning;
- if worn infrequently, store the clothes in a folded state, as the use of a hanger leads to deformation.
To maintain the shape of things after washing, they must be rolled up in a towel and wrung out.
Features of care largely depend on the type of fabric:
- Knitwear. It is necessary to wash products from it, turning it inside out and using mild agents. Dry on a horizontal surface. Do not use hangers.
- Cashmere. Hand wash only with delicate detergents. Do not hang when drying.
- Wool. Wash with mild agents. Dry unfolded.
- Cotton. Use special products for washing colored items. Drying can be done in a tumble dryer. Iron from the wrong side using a humidifier iron.
- Linen. Carefully approach the washing temperature, as with the wrong choice, things can shrink. Iron using a humidifier iron.
- Silk. Wash principally by hand using a delicate detergent. Dry away from sunlight and heating appliances. Iron from the wrong side without using steam. Avoid contact with perfume, deodorant and perspiration, as these can fade the fabric.
- Viscose. Wash with mild detergents.
- Modal. Products made from this fabric retain their softness after washing, do not fade, do not shrink, therefore, to care for them, it is enough to focus on the tag.
- Acrylic. Ironing is allowed only if indicated on the label.
- Polyester. Wash colored items with appropriate products. Iron on the wrong side.
- Nylon. Ironing is usually not required.
- Neoprene. Wash by hand in warm water with mild detergents. Rinse front and back separately. Ironing is prohibited.
