How to fold bedding in a closet
Keeping the closet tidy allows you not only to give it a neat appearance, but also to save space and make it easier to find the right thing. Competent storage of bed linen can significantly increase the tidiness of the wardrobe and make its organization more systematized.
Basic rules for storing bed linen
To preserve the long-term freshness of bed linen without caking and unpleasant odors, you should adhere to the following basic storage rules:
- before storing the kit, it must be washed and dried;
- the place in which textiles are stored should be located away from the bathroom and heating appliances, that is, be isolated from temperature and humidity changes, since otherwise parasites can start in the linen;
- exposure of the fabric to sunlight should be excluded, as this causes drying of the fibers and gradual fading;
- bed linen placed for long-term storage must be periodically ventilated to avoid the appearance of moths;
- to ensure comfortable storage, for home use it is worth having no more than two to five sets of linen;
- when placed on shelves, bed linen should be turned inside out so that it retains whiteness and brightness of colors longer;
- do not store textiles in plastic boxes or plastic bags, as it will become musty;
- sort the linen, laying it out either by sets or by accessories - separately sheets, pillowcases and duvet covers.
Note! The optimal replacement for simple bags and boxes are vacuum bags from which air is pumped out.
Bedding should not be stored in the fold-out sofa, as the interior has large gaps and is close to the floor, which can trap dust and hair, especially with pets.
In the closet
The most common way. Laundry is usually stored in stacks that fit on shelves. The advantage of this storage is the speed of placing clean laundry, which can simply be placed on top. However, if you need to get the accessories from the bottom or from the middle, you will need to break the entire stack, since neighboring ones are pulled out along with the desired item. To solve this problem, you can immediately form sets of linen by folding the rolled sheet and duvet cover into one of the pillowcases. Tucking up the ends of the pillowcase creates a neat envelope.
For a small cabinet, you can use hanging shelves, on which storage can be organized either in the same way, or by arranging the kits according to accessories.
In the dresser
Storing in a dresser is similar to storing it on shelves, as the laundry is usually stacked. The disadvantage is the lack of a side view, and in order to view the contents of the stack, it must be lifted.For this reason, it is better to place textiles in dresser drawers vertically.
Pull-out baskets are ideal for stacking. All contents are visible in them, and it is convenient to handle the linen. Various sets can be formed, for example by combining duvet covers and pillowcases and placing the sheets separately.
Note! In wire baskets, laundry is well ventilated so it can stay fresh longer.
Packaged
Bedding that is not used often can be stored in specialized vacuum packaging. After placing the laundry in the bag, air is pumped out of it using a vacuum cleaner or a special pump, which allows you to strongly compress things and protect them from dirt, dust, moths and the appearance of an unpleasant odor. The bags can be of different sizes and thicknesses.
Note! In vacuum bags, you can place not only linen, but also pillows and blankets, which are significantly reduced in volume, which allows you to free up about 80% of the space.
In a suitcase
The laundry can be stored in a suitcase, wardrobe trunk, box or container. They are sealed enough, and therefore protect the contents from dust. Depending on the size and space capabilities, they can be either removed under the bed or used as a bedside table or chest of drawers.
How to fold - options
Before folding, the laundry must be prepared as follows:
- Go through. He should get rid of old and long-unused things, since they only clutter up the space, having no value.
- Wash and iron. Ironing allows you to reduce the volume of items, which allows them to be folded more compactly. To remove creases more effectively, you can use the steaming function. Adding a couple of drops of aromatic oils to the water will make the bedding tidier and smoother and give them a pleasant scent.
Note! To minimize wrinkling, garments should be shaken and flattened on an ironing board before ironing.
- Sort. Lingerie should be arranged not only by sets, but also by season. For the cold period, sets of dense fabric are suitable, for the warm period - light and breathable.
- Turn inside out. This will preserve the brightness of the textiles.
In a pillowcase
Such storage of linen allows you to sort it into sets in which the pattern is easily visible. At the same time, there is no need to allocate a separate place for pillowcases, and all the elements of the set are always located next to each other. The procedure for folding bed linen into a pillowcase step by step is as follows:
- Fold the duvet cover compactly and evenly several times.
- Roll one of the pillowcases and the sheet in the same way.
- Place the resulting rectangles in the second pillowcase.
- Fold the free side of the pillowcase down.
- Place the received envelope on the shelf.
On a roll
This method is used for vertical storage on deep shelves and drawers. It is convenient in that it opens an overview of all the kits. When one of them is pulled out, the storage structure is not disturbed. Folding into a roll is carried out as follows:
- Fold the duvet cover lengthwise so that a narrow band appears.
- Fold the sheet in the same way and place it over the duvet cover.
- Lay one or a pair of pillowcases on top.
- Roll the kit into a tight roll and either place it in the remaining pillowcase or carefully tie it with tape.
- Rolls are either placed vertically in a box, or placed in a pyramid on a shelf. When pulling out any of the rolls, the overall structure is not disturbed, and new rolls are placed in the vacant space.
Envelope
This method is suitable for closet storage, where envelopes can be stacked or upright. Folded kits can be easily retrieved without disturbing the order. Textiles that are not used in the current season can be stowed away, for example, on the top shelf. The packaging looks like this:
- Unfold the duvet cover and smooth with your hands to remove any creases. After four times roll up. To prevent the fabric from wrinkling, the work surface must be flat and firm.
- Place the sheet, folded six times, on top of the duvet cover. Spread it out with your hands so that it does not wrinkle during work.
- Spread both pillowcases on top of the linen without folding.
- Fold over the edges of the duvet cover to form an envelope. Insert the free edge into the resulting hole.
The resulting envelope is compact and cannot be opened.
Note! So that the linen does not wrinkle in the process, each layer must be carefully smoothed with your hands during styling.
In the pocket
This method is suitable for both horizontal and vertical storage. The pocket is strong enough, retains its shape and does not unfold. The order of work is as follows:
- Spread a well-ironed duvet cover on the floor or on a large table.
- Place pillowcases and sheets on top, carefully straightening. Additional folding of textiles is not required.
- Fold the side parts up, then fold the linen several times in a rectangle from the edge. Place the free end inward.
According to the KonMari method
The method developed by Marie Kondo is based on the idea that all things in an apartment should be stacked, taking up a minimum of space and being in plain sight. Using this method, you can fold any things, including bedding, which will have a neat and compact look. It is suggested to store textiles vertically so that all sets are in sight. This option makes it easy to get things without disturbing the order in the closet.
The styling looks like this:
- Going through textiles, throwing away everything that is no longer suitable for use, rarely gets or does not like it.
- Sort sheets, pillowcases and duvet covers separately, iron with steam and carefully stack. To make it easier to pick up the set, the items should be folded in order of color.
- Fold sheets and pillowcases into rectangles, and fold duvet covers several times so that they take up less space. The resulting stacks should not be too high.
- Place the prepared stacks on the shelf in an upright position, firmly pressing all the items in the row.
Thus, you can store bedding sets not only on shelves, but also in baskets, boxes or boxes.
Note! A small shelf in your closet will not work for this method. Deep niches are required for comfortable placement.
How beautiful to fold as a gift
A beautiful bedding set is often used as a gift for newlyweds. It can either be in its original packaging or be neatly folded by hand.The second option is performed as follows:
- Iron the kit to reduce its volume.
- Roll up the duvet cover several times and place the sheets and pillowcases folded four times on it.
- Tie the pile with a matching ribbon and place in a box or gift bag.
If the sets are voluminous, there are many of them, or they are supplemented with towels, then all parts can be rolled up, tied together in the manner of a cake. A postcard with wishes is placed inside, and the composition itself is decorated with flowers and ribbons.
How to fold a sheet with an elastic band
Bed linen with an elastic band is quite comfortable and practical, but it is not always easy to fold it neatly. This can be done according to the following scheme:
- Spread the sheet with your hands so that no creases are formed when folding.
- Nest one corner into the other. Proceed in the same way with the second pair of corners.
- Smooth out the resulting rectangle carefully.
- Roll up the sheet so that the elastic is placed inside.
- Fold the sheet again. The resulting square can be sent for storage.
Why linens can smell musty in the closet
An unpleasant smell can appear for the following reasons:
- high humidity in the room, due to which mold develops;
- poor ventilation;
- storage of linen that is not completely dry after washing;
- foreign smells from: nearby items with traces of perfume, sweat or cigarette smoke; food in a nearby kitchen; pets; household chemicals.
To get rid of the unpleasant smell, it is enough to follow some tips:
- do not store worn items made of synthetics or with traces of perfume next to bed linen;
- to speed up drying of clothes, you can use a hair dryer or heater;
- to eliminate mold, the affected areas should be treated with an aqueous solution of vinegar, and an activated carbon tablet should be placed in the cabinet, which must be replaced monthly;
- To enhance the scent of your laundry, you can use conditioners, essential oil solutions, scented soaps, herbal bags, or fruit.
By choosing the best way to fold bed linen in the closet, you can significantly save internal space and make it easier to find the right set. Proper storage will extend the life of your bedding.
