Methods for peeling and slicing a mango
This exotic fruit is popular not only in its homeland in the tropics, but also in the northern latitudes. Another name for mango is the Asian apple. It is rich in vitamins A, B and C, as well as potassium, iron and magnesium. How to properly peel a mango? It turns out that there are several ways to do this and fully enjoy its unique taste.
Do I need to clean?
Oddly enough, sometimes such a question arises. The mango peel is usually tricolor: green, red and yellow. Completely tasteless and useless. In addition, according to research, it is the peel that contains the urushiol substance, which causes skin allergies.
Important: if, after contact with the mango peel, an allergy appears on your hands, this does not mean at all that you should not eat the peeled fruit. This only proves that the peel of the fruit is not only useless, but also dangerous for you personally. So put on gloves the next time you peel the fruit.
Another important point - when purchasing a fruit in a supermarket, you cannot know how it was processed so that it retains its "presentation" as long as possible. And this is another argument in favor of peeling mangoes before eating.
We clean mango at home
In general, there are only two ways to peel a mango at home: by removing the skin at the beginning of the process, or at the end. But, in any case, first remove the tail with leaves (if any), and then rinse thoroughly under running water. For a more thorough washing, use a brush.
Immediately, we note that the slippery pulp of the fruit requires a certain skill, there is a risk of injury with a knife. Some people prefer to peel the mango without a knife at all or with minimal use of it.
Manual way
In this case, the use of a knife is minimal. Make a cruciform incision at the top of the head and, pulling the corners, pull off the resulting petals with your hands. As a rule, overripe fruits are cleaned in this way.
Alternatively, make a circular cut in the middle of the mango without hitting the pit. After that, "armed" with a spoon, take out the pulp.
With a knife
If you prefer to peel the fruit with a cutting tool, then remember that this activity is not as safe as it might seem at first glance. Therefore, follow the safety rules by constantly holding the fruit with your non-working hand.
The first way
Place the fruit on a cutting board with the top (the one where the ponytail was) on top. Take a serrated knife with your working hand (it does not slide so well). Then, make a vertical incision across the entire fruit. Rotate the mango 180 degrees and make another cut like this. If the fruit is ripe, then you can easily divide the fruit into two parts and the stone will fall out freely. If the mango is not very ripe, then grab the halves with your hands and scroll. Remove the bone with a knife.
Second way
Make a vertical and horizontal cut without touching the bone. There will be four "cubes" on each side of the fruit. Pry the skin with your hand and turn the cubes out. And in order to enjoy the taste of an exotic fruit, use a spoon.
Mango cutter
This device will help to peel the fruit of the skin, preserving more tasty and healthy pulp. By the way, if you don't have a special mango cutter, don't rush to the store, use a regular vegetable peeler. This "device" is ideal for ripe, but not overripe fruits. By directing the peeler from top to bottom, you can easily peel the fruit without spoiling the flesh.
