Types and selection of sofa tables
Choosing upholstered furniture today, the main thing that is paid attention to is functionality. And if earlier the sofa played the role of an exclusively sleeping place, today several functions can be harmoniously combined in one piece of furniture at once.
Advantages and disadvantages of the model
The sofa table differs from transformable items with built-in storage drawers and countertops. After simple manipulations, it turns into a full-fledged dining area, with a comfortable table top and several seating units.
And although a transforming sofa with a table appeared on the market relatively recently, it has already gained wide popularity. The main advantages of this design:
- Aesthetic appearance.
- Variety of design and shape options.
- Lots of colors.
- Practicality of the model.
- Long period of operation.
- Several possible transformation options.
- Affordable cost.
Such furniture is very functional. When folded, the design has a modest size and saves space. This model is perfect for small city apartments, or small rooms in private houses. In addition, such designs always look very interesting, the interior becomes unique and the effect of spaciousness is present.
Finally, the sofa table is a very user-friendly design. Depending on the transformation option, a different configuration of the dining area is obtained and the number of seating places varies. Some models allow you to adjust the size of the tabletop, and, with a slight movement of your hand, turn into a full-fledged sleeping place.
Such furniture is suitable for the interior of the rooms of a student or schoolchild. In addition, there are modifications that are also equipped with a storage system. Do not think that the sofa table should take its place of honor exclusively in the kitchen space.
It is also used in the interiors of studio apartments, where saving square meters is at the forefront, and in addition, they are used when furnishing combined premises, for example, a kitchen and a living room.
There are few flaws in the design. The main disadvantage of the sofa-table is the impossibility of placing it close to the wall, as is the case with most classic sofas. Space is required for transformation, which means that it is simply impossible to put such a sofa in a small room (3 or 4 square meters).
It is also noted that not every model has a wide table top, and, as a result, not every modification is convenient to use, like a regular dining table. But this is already a matter of choice and personal preference.
Varieties
The models offered in numerous furniture showrooms can be divided into two categories: folding and modular. Each variety has both advantages and disadvantages, and also differs in terms of service life and degree of practicality. And among the modular and among the folding models, there are 3-in-1 transforming sofas, that is, they combine three functions: a sofa, a bed and a table.
The table can be used as a dining, work or computer, depending on your wishes.
Modular
Like any other modular furniture, a sofa table consists of a number of separate units. Outwardly, such a sofa can look different: some, when assembled, resemble a compact sofa without armrests, and with soft pads for the seats and backs, while others, on the contrary, have high armrests and a back, and at the base there are high legs.
If the seat has high legs, then after transformation it easily turns into either a table or a sleeping place. It traditionally has a thick filler layer. And in order to turn the dining group into an ordinary sofa, armchairs with backs move under the table top from the sides. By the way, with this design, the seats can be either with or without a frame.
The main advantage of the above models is the ease of transformation. Even a child can easily cope with unfolding the model, or assembling it.
Well, putting the chairs together, you get a single ottoman, with a comfortable berth. Since there are different modifications of modular sofas, there are varieties in which separate modules are not only chair modules, but also back modules, armrests and poufs. In this case, there is the possibility of additional experiments with the placement of modules.
Folding
These models are distinguished by a special transformation mechanism. Distinguish between folding, swivel and lifting mechanisms. Folding models look very respectable, decorating the interior with their mere presence. Once assembled, the rigid armrests and backrest become a table with high supports.
Various folding models are available. For example, the backrest is made soft or hard, as well as additional equipment with pillows. The armrests can also be of different shapes, straight or curved, soft or hard. There are models with genuine leather upholstery.
In order to turn such a sofa into a full-fledged sleeping place (single or double), a roll-out or folding mechanism is used. And depending on the type of construction, an additional attachment on wheels can be used.
Design options
Convertible sofa. This is one of the most common patterns. Maximum functionality and nothing superfluous in the design. Such a piece of furniture is ideal for small rooms in which every centimeter must be used effectively.
Such furniture is convenient in that it implies the simultaneous existence of a full-fledged sofa and a table. When assembled, it is a comfortable, not very wide sofa, and in the transformable version it is a practical tabletop of sufficient size. Such furniture is perfect for a kitchen dining area, and as a workplace for a student or schoolchild.
Some models have small drawers for storing various things. This "bonus" undoubtedly increases the functionality of sofas.
In order to organize a sleeping place, special clamps are removed, and the working surface is under the sofa. To make the transformation process as "painless" as possible, double-sided gas lifts are used, thanks to which you get another from one piece of furniture with a slight movement of your hand.
Convertible sofas can be designed for one or two people, or they can be completely bunk. The latter option is perfect for children's rooms: in the assembled version, it is a table and seating, and in the unfolded version - two sleeping tiers.
Another variety is corner sofas. Such models will perfectly complement the interior of the living room, kitchen, nursery, study or large hallway. Tables are located on different sides and may vary in shape and size.
One of the most common options is a table near the armrest (or behind it, within easy reach). This design solution is very practical: you can put a cup of coffee on a small table, put a TV remote control, a magazine.
There are designs with a table in the corner. In this case, the stand is between the sofas.
In some models, the table top is placed directly on the armrest. The dimensions and, as a consequence, the functionality of such tabletops are varied. Depending on the model, you can place everything on the surface: from the remote control to the full meal tray.
There are sofas, which, as a functional addition, come with special armrest covers without protruding edges. Some of them are additionally equipped with compartments for various little things.
Models with ottomans are another type of multifunctional furniture. These sofas perfectly "cope" with the placement of guests around the table. In this case, the table top has a slightly elongated shape so that coffee cups and saucers with dessert can easily fit on it.
Finally, a pair of compact ottomans will easily “hide” under the table top and will not take up space when ottomans are not needed.
Sofas with folding tables have different configurations. For example, there are models with stationary built-in tables, which differ in serious dimensions and can not be "settled" in every room.
And there are designs with folding tabletops, which are "taken out" as needed, and then put into the sofa, and do not require additional space. At the same time, the tables can differ not only in their size and shape, but also in their functional purpose.
There are countertops that look more like coasters for the little things you need, or a little larger for a cup of tea. And there are models with a full dining table, which can easily accommodate several people at once.
Recently, sofas with a built-in computer table have become more and more popular. In the age of technology, this demand can be easily explained: both adults and children need to sit at the computer for work, study, or just for recreation. The computer stand can be placed on the back of the sofa back, or it can be a fully-fledged table, like in transforming models.
Three-in-one sofas allow not only to rationally use the available square meters, but also to save money, because if there were no transformer, you would have to purchase three independent items. And a decent assortment in furniture showrooms guarantees an ideal option for your interior.
