The standard is determined by the average indicators of a person's physique. Different types of products have their own indicators, which can be found in the table:
Type of | Length (cm) | Width (in cm) |
One bedroom | 186–205 | 70–106 |

Let's consider in more detail the sizes of beds by type.
One bedroom
It should be noted right away that this type of furniture is designed for the physique of an average individual.
Advice. People with a large figure (over 100 kg) will feel uncomfortable in a single bed, or even simply will not fit.
However, individuals with an ordinary physique may also not be very comfortable, especially those who like to fall apart, spread their arms, and often change their position in a dream. That is why such sleeping places are not in great demand, although they are cheaper than others: no one, even a lonely person, wants to neglect their comfort, albeit to the detriment of finances.
The width and length of the standard single bed is a maximum of 106 and 205 cm, respectively. Such furniture is more often bought for teenagers and with a lack of space in the home, it can be found in modest hotels, hostels and hostels, at recreation centers and other similar establishments.
But for those who are still interested in a single bed, size, standard, we can give some advice.
Advice. The best option for yourself can be chosen as follows: lie on the floor, put your hands under your head and measure the distance between your elbows with a measuring tape. Add 20 centimeters to the resulting figure. The final amount is the optimal width of the "odnushki" just for you.

How to choose the right bed size and mattress
To buy furniture that is suitable in size, we advise you to be guided by the following principles:
- Measure the room in which it is planned to put it, choose a suitable place for it in advance - it should fit well into the surrounding space.
- Decide on the type of bed. It should be borne in mind that it should be such that the legs, head, arms of the sleeping person do not hang from it.
- To determine the length of the bed, you need to add 15–20 cm to the height of the person. If you buy a double model, they are guided by the growth of the one who is taller in the pair.
- The width of the bed is calculated according to the above method (see information on a single bed).
- The dimensions of the bed should be acceptable for the room, so that you can freely approach it, clean up the room without problems.
As for the mattress, it should be appropriate for the type of bed and its size. The product is a little smaller and a little more inconvenient, look ridiculous, etc.
Advice. Let us remind you once again: it should be borne in mind that when marking in the EU and Russia, centimeters are used, and in the UK and the United States - inches. Therefore, it is advisable, when buying a bed from a European manufacturer, to equip it with a mattress of the same geographical origin.
