Features and benefits of polished furniture
Impeccable shine, sophisticated style - polished furniture will never go out of style. But she needs appropriate, delicate care. Otherwise, there will be no trace of the former luxury and gloss.
Do not be afraid: you can cope with a capricious surface with “home” remedies.
Advantages and Disadvantages of Polished Furniture
Noble polished wood is far from chipboard. Such furniture serves for decades, and with proper care it remains in its original form.
Many houses still have old (and even antique) reliable cabinets, sideboards and lacquered tables.
But, alas, not everyone was able to keep them “as new”. And all because such furniture requires special attention and is more capricious than similar furniture with a matte surface.
What are the main "whims" of polished products:
- they attract dust more strongly;
- any stains are clearly visible, traces of hot dishes remain on the surface;
- abrasive surfaces leave visible marks and scratches.
Therefore, “glossy” furniture must be carefully looked after.
How to properly care for her
Most of all, polishing is afraid of moisture and high temperatures. Therefore, after cleaning, the surface must be wiped dry.
For cleaning, do not use too hot water and solutions. Due to carelessness, whitish spots and irreducible marks may remain on the surface.
A set of rules for caring for a glossy furniture surface:
- Daily cleaning: dust deposits are detrimental to a shiny surface, so you need to remove it every day.
- Alcohol-based, aggressive agents (solvents, acetone) are not suitable for cleaning furniture. Better - ordinary soap solution.
- The surface can only be polished with soft materials (wool, cloth, suede, flannel). Scratching will occur if scrubbed with abrasive pads.
If you follow these rules, then the furniture will not have to be restored and cleaned with expensive means.
How can it be cleaned
The most sensitive issue is cleaning. Household stores sell an assortment of sprays, pastes, polishes. They cost no more than other household cleaning products, and they cope with pollution “with a bang”.
Tip: Coating surfaces with an antistatic agent will reduce dust settling and make cleaning easier.
You can also use folk methods to care for polished furniture. For such surfaces, formulations are suitable containing:
- vegetable oils - gently remove dirt and restore shine;
- vinegar - does an excellent job with stains;
- milk - removes stains, gently corrodes dirt;
- tea, beer - dissolve oil stains;
- shampoo - a mild soap solution is obtained on its basis
- flour - absorbs excess moisture.
For cleaning, a composition of wine vinegar and olive oil is suitable. mix the ingredients 1: 1, mix thoroughly, apply to a soft cloth. Then polish with a dry cloth. Another polish is beer with a lump of wax. The ingredients need to be heated, mixed, and then cooled.
You can remove dust with a solution of shampoo and antistatic agent. For 8 parts of water, add one part of the ingredients and treat the surface with this composition. If water is spilled on the polished surface, ordinary flour will help out.
Sprinkle it on a wet spot, and then remove it with a swab dipped in vegetable oil.
You can also remove whitish marks with home remedies. A composition of petroleum jelly, vegetable oil and salt left on the surface for several hours will make the stain less noticeable.
For greasy stains
How to clean polished furniture from grease stains from fingers at home without using household chemicals? Not difficult. You need to take tea leaves and add a heated solution to it:
- 200 ml of beer;
- 20 grams of wax;
- 20 grams of sugar.
Wipe the dirt with a cooled compound, and then wipe it dry. After this treatment, the greasy stain will disappear.
Rules for the operation of such furniture
Three simple rules will help keep your polished furniture intact for years to come.
- Cabinets, tables, cabinets and musical instruments should not be placed next to heating appliances. It is also prohibited to put hot items without coasters.
- Direct sunlight deprives the surface of its shine, so it is better to place furniture in parts of the room that are far from the window.
- There is no place for such furniture in rooms with high humidity. Under the influence of water, the boards deform, and the varnish swells.
There are few living conditions for furniture with a glossy finish and none of them are impossible.
How to properly polish it at home
Before starting to polish the surface, it must be cleaned of dust and fine dirt. If this is not done, instead of a mirror finish, you will get terrible scratches.
If dry cleaning is not enough, the remaining dirt can be removed with a soapy solution (preferably a shampoo or liquid cleaner). Then you can start cleaning with any composition you like: purchased household or folk.
It is better not to treat the furniture in sections: it is worth polishing the entire surface. Movements should be smooth, without unnecessary pressure. After cleaning with polish, wipe the surface with a soft, clean cloth until all residues of the agent and streaks disappear.
