  • The design of the chairs can be called standard, laconic. Different models are similar to each other, they may differ only in color and in some details.
  • To give stability to chairs, manufacturers make their base very wide, which takes up space, and in small rooms and apartments it may not be very convenient. But this is due to the need to protect children from falling.
  • It is not easy for a small child to rearrange the chair to another place; the help of adults is needed.

How to choose the right chair

In order to choose the right chair, pleasing to the eye and growing with the child, several important nuances must be taken into account:

  • Attention - to the material. Solid wood, wood plywood, MDF must fully comply with safety requirements and be certified, as well as paints and varnishes that were used to decorate children's furniture. You should ask the seller for product certificates, and it is better to refuse to buy chairs from unknown manufacturers.
  • If the seat is being purchased for an infant, you must purchase a set of removable seat belts or table restraints. For the convenience of the child, for a rigid structure, it is better to buy a set of pillows, and give preference to those that are securely fixed on the back and seat, in order to avoid slipping.
  • The chair should not wobble and give the impression of a flimsy structure, creak. The chair brackets must firmly fix the furniture and not wobble in the grooves.
  • For a convenient position at the table when a preschooler or schoolchild is engaged, it is better to buy a desk that can also grow, which will allow you to adjust the child's fit as much as possible.
chair selection rules
If the design is chosen for a child under five years old, you should pay attention to models with a limiter. They will ensure safe use. For schoolchildren, you should choose high chairs with soft seats.

How to do it yourself

Such furniture will not be difficult to make on your own; this will require a little skill in working with wood, a minimum set of tools and available materials.

homemade chair
Not all materials are suitable for making a folding chair that grows with the child. The product can be made from either plywood or treated wood.

Set of tools:

  • Sheets (Whatman or cardboard) for drawings, pencil.
  • Ruler, tape measure.
  • Jigsaw (preferably electric).
  • Sandpaper.
  • Fraser.
chair making tools
On the Internet, you can easily download a ready-made project, or focusing on GOST 19301.2-94, which describes what parameters tables and chairs for children should have, you can make a template yourself.

Mountings:

  • 6-taper bolts, furniture countersunk nuts.
  • Wood glue.
chair mounts
To tighten the screws in the template, we make holes in those places where there will be holes for attaching the seat and footrest. In this case, the head of the twisted self-tapping screw should not protrude from the template.

Material:

  • Plywood at least 22 mm for the base of the chair (for each upright - double glued piece).
  • Plywood 16 mm - 22 mm for the seat and back of the furniture.
  • Water-based varnish, wood primer, paint, paint brushes and finished chair decoration.
high chair manufacturing
The chairs are completely disassembled and all parts are sanded before coating.

Step-by-step instruction:

  1. Make a drawing of the product, calculate all the parameters. For the drawing, you can use the ready-made parameters of the chairs, which are presented on the Internet.
  2. Carry out patterns of all parts on cardboard in full size.
  3. Attach the template to the plywood, circle it with a pencil, cut it out with a jigsaw. It is important not to forget that some of the details are "specular" - that is, right and left.
  4. All parts of the chair base are made of double parts, which, after cutting, must be turned to match, then glued. After gluing, the parts must be pressed with a press and allowed to dry (usually a day).
  5. The milling cutter grinds grooves on the inner surface of the racks. The grooves should run in an even row at a distance of 8-10 cm from each other, have a depth of 1 cm, a width of 24 mm.
  6. Through holes must be made in the center of the bottom of each groove to fix the seat and footrest.
  7. Cut out the backrest, seat, footrest, round off the edges, make the sliders for the footrest and the seat to fix them on the structure.
  8. When all the parts are ready, you need to complete the complete assembly of the furniture. If everything suits you, the chair must be disassembled again into parts for further fine cleaning, painting or varnishing.
