Pull-out ironing board in the closet
The ironing board will not lose its value for a long time. Still, this is an important household accessory. One question: where to store it? In the pantry, on the balcony - not so convenient. After all, I want it to be always at hand, but not to spoil the interior of the apartment.
There is a simple and ergonomic solution - an ironing board in the closet. It is incredibly convenient and stylish: when you need to iron your linen, the board extends or leans back, and the rest of the time it does not catch your eye.
We are talking about the device of such mechanisms and how to make them with your own hands.
Pull-out and recessed ironing boards
From the name it is clear that such boards are integrated into special furniture niches. They are great for studio apartments or one-bedroom apartments, as well as in the homes of those who strive for ergonomics.
Usually they are built into sliding wardrobes or dressing rooms, where the board is “hidden” in a niche behind a mirror or decorative panel. Also, a folding board can be mounted in a chest of drawers or kitchen units.
When unfolded, the household accessory does not differ from the floorboard, with the exception of the folding mechanism and the type of support. They are made of pressed sheet materials, plywood or metal, with a layer of filler, covered with heat-resistant fabric.
Types of built-in ironing boards
Designs such as an ironing board for a wardrobe can be:
- retractable - stored in drawers and dresser cabinets, often folding;
- folding - stored behind the doors of a wardrobe / wardrobe or dressing room, recline from a vertical position;
- hidden - stored in special decorated niches, reclined from a vertical position due to a hidden mechanism.
Arrangement of an ironing board in the closet
When folded, the pull-out ironing board in the cupboard should line up with the drawer. The most comfortable models to use are equipped with swivel mechanisms.
However, retractable boards are often inferior to folding boards in terms of convenience: they are often built into kitchen sets, and due to the limited space, using them can be problematic.
Folding boards are not only more convenient, but also easier to manufacture. They are mounted on a metal frame that is fixed to a wall, shelf or niche. the most practical are the boards fixed to the shelf.
Firstly, access to the drawers where the laundry is stored is immediately opened.
Secondly, the space is used ergonomically and there is no need to allocate additional space for the household device. Thanks to the adjustable support, the board can be fixed at a comfortable height.
Hidden boards are a type of folding boards. Their difference is that inventory is stored behind a decorative overlay. Most often - with a mirror or panel, which moves according to the principle of a compartment or opens with a swing method.
Do-it-yourself ironing board built into the closet
To assemble the board with your own hands, first you need to allocate space for the ironing board in the wardrobe.
Attention! The dimensions of the board must be taken into account. To use the mechanism with comfort, the lower stop is placed no higher than 80 cm from the floor.
How to do:
- choose the size of the product, the standard dimensions will be 120x30 or 130x40 cm;
- focusing on the parameters, cut out the workpiece, round off the edges if possible;
- take two beams (standard sizes 3.5x4x30 cm) and three beams (standard sizes (3.5x4x110 cm);
- use a jigsaw and a milling machine to process parts;
- on long bars, make two marks - with an indent of 52 cm from one edge and 58 cm from the other edge;
- drill through holes (drill diameter 8 mm);
- connect the bars with M10 bolts, turn the middle one by 180 degrees;
- on short beams, make 2 holes on each side - on one side, retreat 3 cm, on the other end - 2 cm (drill diameter 8 mm);
- connect short and long bars;
- fix the support on the tabletop with an indentation of 18 cm from the edge;
- using a milling machine, make a small depression on the other edge of the tabletop, it is necessary for the folding leg;
- make upholstery according to the dimensions of the countertop (taking into account allowances of 10-20 cm, the standard size will be 150x50 cm);
- fix the covering on the board with a furniture stapler.
In this way, you can make a built-in folding ironing board yourself.
Where can I buy a ready-made board
Manufacturers and stores do not often offer such goods ready-made. However, a wardrobe ironing board can be made to order from any furniture shop or component company.
The optimal solution is when buying furniture, check with the manufacturer if he can additionally make an ironing board for the wardrobe.
This will guarantee the perfect integration of the household accessory into the interior of the furniture.
