Height, width and other dimensions of chairs
Usually, furniture can be selected based on personal aesthetic preferences and room design. But a properly selected chair, the dimensions of which are precisely calibrated, will not be just a beautiful element of the interior, but a comfortable place for rest, work or eating.
What are the sizes of chairs
Before buying furniture, you need to decide: order an individual production or contact a store for factory-made goods. The dimensions of the chair, it does not matter, with or without a backrest, must correspond to:
- the parameters of the table in front of which he will stand;
- the height and physique of the customer.
The table must be bought in advance, matching the average height of family members. The standard table height is 75 cm.
Manufacturers offer a variety of chairs and stools of different sizes. They can be fixed or adjusted as needed.
Standard by height and width
For domestic use, GOST provides for the following dimensions:
- Depth: 36-45 cm (40-50 cm when it comes to an armchair).
- Width: 36-45 cm (40-50 cm for the chair).
- Backrest curvature (positioned from the seat): 16.5-20 cm.
- The standard backrest is 90 cm.
Standard stool size: 32 cm - width, 50 cm - leg height, 38 cm - distance from the horizontal bar to the seat.
Custom sizes
The choice of standard furniture allows you to equip a comfortable room in almost any case. But in exceptional situations, you have to select products with special parameters. For example, if the height or weight of the customer is much higher or lower than average.
In such cases, they turn to specialists for manufacturing in order to calculate the parameters and get custom-made furniture with higher or lower legs, a wide seat, a certain angle of installation of the backrest, and an increased distance between the armrests.
Varieties of sizes
The characteristics of the chair depend on the purpose of use. The requirements for an office chair, in which an employee needs to spend eight hours without getting out, differ from the characteristics of a kitchen or children's variety.
For a child
Correctly selected furniture is a prerequisite for the development of a healthy child's posture. Sitting too low can cause poor circulation. A seat that is too high will cause you to bend over the table or strain your eyes.
To understand if the right place for study and play is selected, sit the child at the table. Your feet should be flat on the floor and your knees should be straight. If the angle is more than 90 degrees, the baby is sitting too high. If it is less, it is too low.
When the child is at the table, the distance from his knees to the table top should be 15 centimeters.
Important! Choose the depth so that the edge of the seat does not press the baby under the knees.
The height can be determined by the following classification:
- For children less than 80 cm tall, a chair at 17 cm is suitable.
- 80 to 90 cm - 24 cm.
- Height from 100 to 115 cm - the seat should be located 28 cm from the floor.
- 110 - 120 cm corresponds to a 32 cm product.
- From 120 to 130 cm - legs in the range of 32-25 cm.
- With the growth of a child up to 140 cm, the product should have a height of 36-38 centimeters.
A convenient option for a child is a product with the ability to change the length of the legs.
For kitchen
The parameters of chairs for the kitchen also depend on the dimensions of the table in the first place. For a standard one, a product is selected with a distance of 80-90 cm from the floor to the top point. From the floor to the seat should be about 42 cm, and the back should be at least 45 cm.The width is usually from 35 cm, the depth is about 50-55 cm.
If a bar is installed in the kitchen, the seating parameters will differ. In this case, the distance from the floor to the seat is at least 75 cm.The standard models have a tilt radius of 45 cm, and the lumbar type is 22 cm.
Pay attention to the convenience of the footrest: it should be located at such a level that your feet can be comfortably placed on it without straining.
For office
The parameters of chairs for work are significantly different from those for the kitchen. Work furniture should bring comfort even after a long stay in a sitting position, not disturb the posture and provide an optimal body position.
When choosing a chair for work, you need to take into account many individual characteristics: someone needs to lean back more strongly, while someone, on the contrary, prefers to look at the monitor from a hard surface and a backrest fixed in an upright position.
Recommended dimensions of office furniture: width from 40 cm, the same depth, height adjustable within 40-45 cm, the ability to tilt 15 degrees forward and 5 degrees back. The slope of the back surface should be approximately 30 degrees, the armrests should be at least 25 cm long and not narrower than 6 cm.
Note! A convenient option for the office is a universal chair that allows you to adjust not only the seat level and backrest tilt, but also the parameters of the armrests.
To create the most comfortable working conditions, choose office chairs made from natural materials. A headrest is desirable.
