How to hang tulle correctly
A competent window design plays an important role. Regardless of the size of the room and the chosen style, it is to the window opening that the eyes are drawn. Therefore, even if the whole design is at its best, but with the curtains, something went wrong - believe me, this is the first thing that will catch the eye of your guests. How to hang tulle in the interior so that it is both beautiful and functional? What tricks do professional designers have in store?
Material features
It is customary to call tulle a transparent or translucent fabric similar to a net. For its manufacture, special curtain devices are used, and they are painted in almost any color. If the interior design provides for the presence of curtains, then you are guaranteed to find a suitable version of tulle in the assortment available today.
Tulle can be divided into several varieties:
- Transparent.
- Matt.
- Reticulate.
- Filiform.
- Lace.
- With embroidery.
Immediately, we note that this is not a complete list of tulle varieties, but only its main "representatives".
Most often, the following fabrics are used as tulle:
- Organza.
- Kiseya.
- Veil.
- Jacquard.
- Chiffon.
- Muslin.
- Batiste.
- Net.
Organza
Most designers love to work with organza, and this is no coincidence. The canvas perfectly keeps its shape, does not wrinkle, and even despite its rigidity, it fills the room with lightness and comfort. This fabric is made from silk or synthetic threads using a tight twist method. Organza does not allow direct sunlight to pass through, it is highly durable, does not absorb odors, does not accumulate dust, and is machine washed.
Of course, you can choose organza made of silk or viscose to decorate a room, but these options will not suit everyone for the price. More budgetary, but no less spectacular outwardly synthetic fiber canvases (for example, polyester). The only caveat: if there are allergy sufferers in your family, artificial material can cause allergies. Unfortunately, such cases are not uncommon.
The assortment of organza today amazes the imagination: plain and multi-colored, with embroidery, prints, with inserts from other materials, and so on. The surface of the canvas can be matte, or it can be glossy, with the effect of broken glass, shiny or with jacquard elements.
One of the most effective options is a canvas with a rainbow or chameleon effect. Any room immediately gets elegant gloss and conviviality.
Organza with a special treatment, also called "non-combustible", is now available. This tulle is ideal for the kitchen, where high temperatures and careless handling there is a danger of fire.
Handmade lace organza is simply a masterpiece. The window opening, decorated with its help, will definitely not go unnoticed. The main disadvantage of such organza is the very high cost, which, however, is justified by the decent quality of the canvas.
Advice. Having decided to hang the organza in the kitchen or in the living room, remember that such tulle practically does not allow air to pass through, which means that the room will need to be regularly ventilated.
Net
Perhaps the simplest fabric, however, you can use it to create a creative window opening design. According to professional designers, such a canvas looks perfect in tandem with thick curtains in the living room or bedroom. And it is better if the curtain and mesh are of the same tone.
The mesh most organically complements the loft or minimalism. By the way, canvases made of harsh fabric are perfect as curtains. Such tulle is rarely used on its own, except for decorating children's rooms, where fresh air and sufficient natural light are very important.
The mesh is subdivided into fine mesh and coarse mesh. If there is embroidery on the canvas, then these curtains are called French lace - this is a great idea for decorating a kitchen window.
Coarse mesh is made from dense thick threads, and sometimes even from a cord. Country and some ethnic styles are considered ideal designs for the application of canvas with large cells.
An interesting option for lovers of unusual design solutions is a mesh over dense curtains. At the same time, the color of both canvases can be contrasting - this is even more interesting. The mesh fabric should be larger than the curtain in order to fall in voluminous folds to the floor.
The main drawback of the grid is its amazing "ability" to accumulate dust, as well as its inability to retain light.
Gas
The so-called gauze tulle is obtained as a result of a slight interweaving of the warp and weft threads, so that there is space between them. A distinctive feature of this canvas is weightlessness and airiness.
It seems that the window opening is shrouded in a light cloud. At first, gauze tulle was made only from natural fibers - from viscose and silk. However, over time, to reduce the cost of the final result, polyester was also used for production.
The gauze fabric has several varieties. So the gas-marabou is characterized by rigidity and a golden hue. The thinnest threads are used to make the illusion gas; therefore, its distinctive feature is considered to be "weightlessness".
Currently, a large assortment of gauze canvases is available, which can be matte, semi-matte, shiny, patterned, printed or embroidered.
It is worth noting that in terms of cost, gauze fabric is considered the most affordable, compared to a veil or organza.
Eaves and mounting options
How effectively tulle will complement the overall interior design largely depends on the correct choice of cornice. At the same time, the latter can carry both decorative and functional loads.
If your cornice is designed exclusively for attaching tulle, then it is generally not necessary to put it on public display, it is better to hide it behind the molding, in a niche.
Depending on the type of fastening, the cornices are subdivided into:
- Models that are attached to the ceiling (also called strings).
- Wall mounted models (pipe or rod).
- Cornices that can be attached both to the wall and to the ceiling (baguette, profile).
If your room has low ceilings, then ceiling mount models are the right option. The tulle is fixed on the cornice with hooks, and in order to visually increase the height of the room, the length of the curtain is chosen to the floor.
Let's say the option when the curtains lie on the floor, thus, the room becomes more comfortable. If you prefer metal string cornice, remember that only very lightweight fabric, such as organza, can be placed on it in one layer. The lightness of the design will not allow complementing the tulle with voluminous curtains on the floor. Well, tubular and baguette cornices are more decor than a functional interior detail.
The curtain is attached to the cornice in the form of a round pipe using rings or eyelets. These mounting options are becoming more and more popular due to their creative looks and ease of use.
How to hang tulle
So, answering the question of how to hang tulle, it is worth taking into account the canvas itself, as well as the cornice on which it will be attached.
And yet there are several life hacks that are applicable to properly attach any tulle.
First of all, you should never hang tulle without drapery. The number and volume of folds can be different, therefore, depending on personal preferences and financial capabilities, material is purchased 1.5-3 times greater than the length of the cornice.
Do not neglect the special curtain tape. With its help, you will not only speed up the process of making curtains, but also make it of higher quality. In addition, the braid allows you to collect tulle with folds of different types, because it is no coincidence that there are several rows of loops on it. For regular pleats, two rows are used, and for unusual draperies, all available loops can be used.
In order to hang the tulle correctly and beautifully, no special skills are required. Moreover, the light and airy material itself always looks impressive. Finally, today you have at your disposal all kinds of curtain tapes and curtain rods of various configurations. And do not neglect decorative elements: small details complementing rings or eyelets, as well as spectacular decoration of curtain holders immediately turns window decoration into an exclusive option.
