How to choose and sew a curtain tape to the curtains
Modern curtains are often made on three different mounts: eyelets, universal hinges, and curtain tape. The most common, of course, is the last option, because in addition to attaching to the eaves bar, the curtain tape allows you to beautifully drape the curtain fabric into neat folds, which will be a good addition to the room.
What are the curtain tapes (photo)
What is a curtain tape? First of all, it should be noted that these are fittings, which are mainly of a decorative nature. It is used to drape curtains - creating a variety of folds that adorn the fabric and enhance the appearance of the room.
What are the features of the curtain tape:
- High-quality assembly of the structure guarantees neat, beautiful folds.
- Curtain tape makes sewing curtains very easy.
- Often it turns out that the drapery of the fabric can be made easier and more beautiful with the help of curtain tape.
- Facilitates the fastening of the curtain fabric to the hooks hanging on the cornice, since several types of loops (thick and thin) are already provided in advance on the curtain tape at different heights (depending on the width of the curtain tape, somewhere it is only 2 rows of loops, but usually they are made according to 3-4).
- The curtain tape comes in different widths (usually from 4 to 16 centimeters).
- Window decoration looks more interesting and unusual if you choose a curtain tape as an attachment (it's all about the drapery).
- Easy to clean - the curtain tape can be washed, as it is usually made of a durable material that does not shrink.
- The length and width of the curtains can be changed with the curtain tape without cutting and hemming the fabric.
- The curtain tape is very durable.
- The curtain tape is made of non-stretching material, which is why it does not lose its shape.
- The curtain tape can be pulled together to create folds in the fabric using cords.
How to choose the right one
When choosing a curtain tape, you need to remember about its division into different categories. Usually, the density is distinguished:
- Lightweight fabric tape (transparent).
- Tape for heavy materials (opaque).
A nylon tape is needed to preserve the original appearance of the curtains, but there is one catch here - it is not at all easy to sew it, it is important to have some sewing skills, perseverance, a sufficiently large amount of free time for this work. The disadvantage of the nylon tape is the poor visibility of the loops for the hooks on it.
Cotton curtain tape is suitable when it can be used as an additional decorative element on the curtain. This type of tape is much more convenient and easier to sew, special sewing skills are not required in this case. But you need to wash carefully - after the first wash, the cotton fabric may shrink.
Also, the curtain tape, as already mentioned, is divided in width. It can be narrow (up to 8 centimeters) and wide (from 8 to 16 centimeters).
A narrow curtain tape is suitable if:
- A closed type cornice is chosen for the room and the connection of hooks and curtains is hidden behind a plastic or other solid decorative strip.
- The cornice is in a special niche specially prepared for it at the stage of renovation.
- In a closed cornice, the connection between the hooks and the curtain is covered by another decorative element besides the strip.
Wide curtain tape is suitable if:
- An open cornice is selected.
- The cornice is of a non-standard, unusual shape.
- Very few hooks were bought for the cornice and they are not available in the nearest access. To prevent the curtain from sagging, do not use thin tape.
- The folds are the main decoration of the curtains.
How to sew a curtain tape with your own hands
Tape for curtains is a very important part of sewing. Everything should look beautiful, and not from the category of "sewn how it turned out, but it did not work out very well", you need to pay special attention to how to sew the ribbon to the curtain. It is worth referring to the instructions on how to sew the ribbon to the curtains correctly, so that even the most inexperienced person in sewing will be able to understand the technology and understand what he needs to do.
However, it is always better to have a printed instruction on hand, as it is several times more convenient - you can always check the sequence of actions without interrupting your work.
Preparing for the procedure
How to properly prepare to make a good crochet curtain tape:
- Choose a fabric and, accordingly, buy a narrow or wide curtain tape of the required strength.
- Finish the edges / cut points of the curtains (if they are made of fabric that crumbles slightly at the cut) using a double hem stitch.
- Sew the tape and fabric together.
At this stage, the stage of preparing the fabric and curtain tape for further work and operation can be considered successfully completed.
Sewing on the tape (master class)
After the end of the stage of preparing the materials, you can proceed to the main part of the work.
How to sew a wide curtain tape to a curtain master class:
- Turn the sewn part of the fabric and tape inside out. Make a small allowance (about 5 millimeters).
- Spread the curtain fabric on a large, flat surface (table or floor).
- Pin up the places where the sewing machine line will pass later so that the structure does not fall apart.
- Stitch the bottom edge of the tape to the curtain.
The work is done. It remains only to form folds (for this you need to pull on the special laces on the curtain tape) and fasten the curtains on the hooks.
After all the performed manipulations, you need to hang the curtains on the cornice. This can be done in two ways:
- Method one. Take the hooks (they should not be attached to the eaves) and hook them onto the loops on the sewn curtain tape. Then hang the finished structure on the cornice, stringing the hook fasteners onto the bar.
- Method two. First, hang the hooks with rings on the curtain rod and then hook the eyelets on the curtain tape to them.
Thus, you can easily decorate your home with curtains, to which curtain tape is sewn for beauty and convenience. It is thanks to these inconspicuous fittings that the room will acquire a fresh and interesting look.
