Description of corner curtain rod for bathroom curtains
The bathroom, like the rest of the premises, requires extraordinary design solutions. Wall and floor design, original modern plumbing, choice of lighting - this is not all that can be done for functional convenience and aesthetic pleasure. Another element of the interior is a corner cornice. Do you think that there can be nothing complicated with an ordinary crossbar? "The devil is in the little things", given them, you can avoid many misalignments, and in standard conditions create something unexpected.
Characteristics of the bathroom curtain rod
The characteristics of the corner cornice depend on the material of manufacture, which are divided into metal and combined:
- Metallic:
- stainless steel is a polished material that lasts forever and is an expensive product option;
- thin-walled steel - a budget option, covered on top with paint that is prone to scratching;
- aluminum is a great option for high humidity.
- Metal custom made from metals with high operational strength:
- nickel plated;
- brass;
- copper;
- bronze.
- Combi curtain rods are made up of a metal rod and a plastic polymer covering the rod, which can bend and change shape.
- Plastic is an inexpensive, lightweight material that may not be suitable for all bathrooms.
What is it needed for
The corner cornice on which the curtain is attached is a piece of space delimitation and protection from moisture for the rest of the interior surfaces. It is chosen when the bathtub is pressed into a corner, and two sides must be closed at the same time. It will transform the room by creating an alcove draped with fabric that can be bundled at the sides or neatly folded.
But even by itself, the curtain rod for the bathroom curtain can become an ornament and make up a composition in the general style: painted with gold, shiny chrome, blackened metal, fiery copper with a natural patina and plastic of all kinds of colors.
What are
Corner cornices are L-shaped (angle 90 degrees) and U-shaped, with right and rounded corners. Also suitable for installing a cornice in a corner:
- Arc, semicircular - the bar is bent in a semicircle in the form of an arc.
- Flexible - bends freely in different configurations, made of aluminum or PVC coated stainless steel.
- Telescopic expander - consists of a retractable system in which one crossbar is located in the other, and is connected together by a spring.
- Asymmetric - they are connected at different angles with special couplings.
Advantages and disadvantages
A metal cornice with a treated surface does not rust and does not lend itself to mold. Stainless steel is not afraid of changes in temperature and moisture, so it will last for decades. Withstands heavy curtains and does not sag. There are also disadvantages, for example, aluminum is quite soft and deforms under load, and metal rings will emit an unpleasant strong sound.
The plastic cornice is varied in color and easy to clean, it is enough to wipe it with a damp sponge. However, over time, it will fade, or even break completely. Plastic is a fragile material; if the weight is exceeded, the structure will sag and burst.
Description of the corner cornice in the bathroom
The reliability of the model depends on the fastening of the cornice:
- captures the bar by 15 mm - for light curtains;
- 20 mm with reinforced fasteners;
- 40 mm with welded fasteners, are deservedly considered the most reliable.
Standard corner models
Fix the L-shaped and arc-shaped corner cornices for the bathroom to two opposite walls without additional ceiling mounts. They are not required because:
- the crossbar is made of one-piece steel pipe;
- flanges are mounted using screws or self-tapping screws;
- the flanges and the crossbeam are connected by a fixing screw.
The dimensions of the U-shaped and semicircular cornice suggest additional fastening, it is hung by the wall-ceiling method at one or two points.
Asymmetric and non-standard models
The design of such models allows you to choose a cornice for any contour of the bath. They consist of several elements that are connected in the required direction and at different angles - an asymmetric cornice.
Additional Information! There is a product with two parallel bars, on one to hang a practical waterproof fabric, on the other - a decorative curtain.
The telescopic stainless steel corner stick for the bathtub has a sliding design and is not the most reliable cornice, therefore it needs good fixing. For fastening, it is worth considering the ceiling method or placing additional support from the floor. This option is not very convenient, the vertical bar takes up space, but it can look good in the interior.
Flexible designs
A flexible cornice up to 50 m long with a stainless steel or aluminum core, covered with high-quality polymer plastic, is capable of bending in any plane. It will take the shape of any bathtub. It can be installed according to the instructions on the wall and on the ceiling, using brackets with a frequency of at least 35 cm.
How to choose the right one
The material of the product directly affects the period of its use. Metal will last longer than plastic as it is more resistant to damage. Wear resistance is the main condition for the curtain rod, because the rings are fasteners for the curtain, they constantly move along the corner stainless curtain rod for the bath and can scratch it. Plastic curtain rod won't last long, but it is inexpensive.
Not all curtain rods are capable of supporting the weight of wet fabric. The telescopic stick breaks at the spring attachment if overloaded.
Features of installing the corner cornice
The cornice can be installed with your own hands, without the help of specialists. The main thing is to have a drill or perforator, a drill for concrete and tiles (5mm), a level, and also several self-tapping screws.
Note! Do not mark with a marker, there is a possibility that it will not wash off. Use a special construction pencil.
- To find the right place for anchoring, you need to push off from the edge of the tub and set the level vertically to the desired height.
- The height is determined by the length of the curtain, the optimal one is at least 20 cm below the bath rim.
- We mark the points with a pencil.
- We make holes in the marked places, insert a dowel into them.
- First, one bracket or flange is tightly planted on a self-tapping screw and a crossbar is inserted onto which the rings are strung (if they are not detachable).
- We put the second bracket or flange on the crossbar, and only after that we fix it to the wall.
- The crossbar and the bracket are connected with a screw so that it is not visible, the bracket is turned with the hole up.
- In the case of flanges, a cover is provided that hides the screws.
Important! Choose a location for the holes in the middle of the tile to avoid chipping.
A different assortment of curtain rods allows you to choose what is ideal for the bath. But if, nevertheless, the ideal is not found, you can order a product according to individual measurements and design.
