Sun-protection roller blinds on the windows in the apartment
If your windows face the sunny side, that's good. In such rooms it is always light, comfortable, and even much warmer than in the "northern" apartments. But what about when there is too much sun? Or do you live in the north and know firsthand what a polar day is? There are several reliable options available to help balance the flow of light.
Why protect a room from the sun
At first glance, it may seem that making a choice is not difficult at all: we buy the densest fabric and the problem is solved. However, not all so simple.
There are several very specific situations when it is necessary to block a window opening in your apartment:
- The computer (TV) screen glows, and it is not possible to rearrange the equipment;
- The windows of the room "look" to the east or southeast, the sun's rays in the morning interfere with sleep;
- A luminous banner or lantern is located opposite the house, preventing you or the children from falling asleep;
- White Nights;
- You work shifts and need adequate sleep during the day.
All these problems are solved by the competent design of the window opening. Moreover, the emphasis can be made both on the fabric itself and on the design of the curtains.
And when you shouldn't completely close the window opening?
- If you want light to penetrate the room and add some zest to the interior. For example, coral curtains can refract light and paint dull gray walls with a pleasant “lively” hue.
An important nuance: such metamorphoses are unlikely to happen on their own, it is better to foresee them at the stage of planning the decoration of the premises.
- There are types of curtains that unfold in all their glory exclusively when exposed to sunlight;
- If your apartment is located in an old building on the ground floor. Usually in such courtyards there is a lot of greenery and in the rooms on the first, and even on the second floor it is always dark;
- If only reliable protection from prying eyes is expected from your curtains, it is not at all necessary to use very dense fabrics.
Varieties of fabrics
There are different degrees of shading. Distinguish between blackout canvases (full protection from the sun's rays) and dimout (partial sun protection).
Blackout
This fabric guarantees almost 100% light protection. Translated from English "blackout" literally means "blackout". It is believed that this canvas was invented in Finland, where the problem of white nights is no less acute than in St. Petersburg. When decorating a window opening with such curtains, a complete illusion of the night is obtained.
If you measure the light transmission as a percentage, then according to some studies, blackout curtains have zero. From the side of the street, and inside, such canvases look different: on the one hand there is a special white dusting, reflective (it is this side that "looks" to the street), and on the other - decorative trim in different versions.
An important point: such curtains from the sun are used both independently and in company with other canvases.In the latter case, the curtain can be used to create a complex curtain as a lining fabric. Complex curtains are most often made when a pattern is required to repeat, for example, a curtain repeats the wallpaper pattern.
Benefits: Provide maximum protection from light and guarantee a sound sleep, cope with directional beams and glare, ideal for home theaters.
There are also disadvantages: such canvases are slightly disorienting, you can confuse day and night.
Interesting fact: according to most, blackout curtains are dark fabrics. In fact, such canvases may well be light pastel shades.
Dimaut
Such curtains will provide only 80% protection from light. Although, you must agree that this is a good result. Thanks to the dimout curtains, it is possible to “dim” the background light, for example, from an advertising banner opposite. Most often they are used in living rooms, because they are ideal in order to create a cozy home environment, and to minimize the influence of external factors.
Important! Unfortunately, it is often the dimout that is sold under the guise of blackout canvases, because the latter are much more expensive. Be vigilant and check the canvas with a flashlight (at least from a mobile phone). Blackout curtains will not let the light through at all, and the dimout material will only slightly dim it.
And one more important point: according to numerous reviews on the Internet, the black thread in the weave of the canvas clearly indicates that this is a blackout fabric. So, this is nothing more than a common misconception. Black thread may well be present in materials that provide partial protection from light. So, its presence does not mean anything.
Plain blackout curtains
It is rather an option for a specific situation: the sun is shining - the curtains have been drawn, disappeared - the window opening has been opened.
The main disadvantage is that by and large they cannot be called sun-protection curtains.
Roller blinds
Roller blinds do not guarantee complete protection from the sun, but they may well provide the necessary shading in the study or in the kitchen. In general, this is the most suitable option for rooms where volumetric or multi-layer structures are inappropriate.
According to some, such options are too clerical, and deprive the room of comfort. In addition, it is important to remember that long canvases not only protect from excess light, but are also able to "damp" some noise, and even protect from drafts. Alas, roller curtains will not help in these matters.
Correct "duets" of curtains will also help to cope with the problem of bright sunlight. So, for example, tulle with dense curtains will provide a presentable appearance, guarantee compliance with the style, and protect (although not 100%) from the bright sun.
And blackout curtains get along well with roll structures. The result is both stylish interior and functionality.
Ultimately, it's up to you to decide which way you will solve the problem of excess light. The main thing is that the range of sun-protection curtains is large enough, and you do not have to sacrifice a spectacular appearance in favor of comfort.
