How to clean your comb at home
Probably, everyone has come across a situation when the comb begins to resemble some prehistoric animal, furiously bristling in its impotence. Nevertheless, such an object is not only unpleasant to look at, but also an excellent "repository" for varnish residues, paint particles, styling foam, as well as grease and skin flakes.
Therefore, knowing how to clean your comb is imperatively necessary to keep it in good condition. After all, it is about cleanliness and health.
Why do you need to do this?
All things created by humans need to be taken care of. The comb is no exception. Even if it is not used for a long time, it still needs cleaning. This can be explained simply - dust always accumulates in the room, small particles fly in the air, from skin scales to pet hair. All this safely settles on the teeth and between them.
On the other hand, styling your hair or using hairspray or dry shampoo will also affect the cleanliness of your comb. If you do not wash it for a long time, such an object will accumulate lost hair, sebum and cosmetics.
Having taken a shower and combing your hair with such a "helper", you can calmly turn around and start washing your hair from the beginning. Therefore, when caring for your hair, nothing is as important as cleaning a massage comb from dirt.
Types of pollution
The most common contamination of this personal hygiene item are:
- Dust and microparticles.
- Sebum (fat).
- Dead scales from the surface of the skin and hair.
- Actually, the hair itself: lost or broken.
- Remains of cosmetics used for styling: mousses, varnishes, dry shampoos, etc.
Note! Dirt and dust accumulate not only on the teeth or between them - any hollow, any protrusion will collect any debris no worse than a vacuum cleaner, eventually acquiring the consistency of resin or cement. Keep this in mind when cleaning!
Cleaning frequency
Since there is not always time to clean the comb according to all the rules, it is recommended to provide regular care at least once a day. This means that it is highly desirable to remove hair and visible dirt after each brushing. For this, they even produce special brushes (albeit mainly for skeletal models).
Ideally, these hair care items should be deep rinsed at least once every seven to eight days. However, with frequent use of cosmetics, this period should be halved.
In principle, you can use lighter products - they will leave fewer marks. It also makes sense to choose the optimal hair care regimen. This will increase the pauses between preventive measures.
How to clean a comb?
The cleaning process is highly dependent not only on the degree of contamination. Its effectiveness is equally influenced by the material from which the brush is made, the type of teeth and the presence of a protective coating. Also, the chosen method, and the thoroughness of the procedure, make their contribution.
Important! In all cases, before you start cleaning the comb using any means, it must be completely freed from accumulated hair and debris!
Plastic
This type of combs is the most unpretentious. They calmly "perceive" any means, they are convenient to handle and can be washed without fear of ruining anything. Prepare a cleaning agent consisting of water and a small amount of shampoo in a prepared container or large (for example, a liter) cup.
You will also need ammonia - about a tablespoon. The brush should be soaked in the resulting liquid for at least an hour. Such a solution dissolves the accumulated fat and residues from cosmetics quite well. After soaking, rinse the brush well with running water.
Note! Since ammonia is a rather aggressive substance, protective gloves must be worn to work with it.
How to clean a wooden comb
Wood is a practical material in all but one thing - it is highly afraid of water, even when coated. Therefore, such products should be carefully protected from prolonged exposure to moisture.
On the one hand, such a brush will be environmentally friendly, and on the other, it requires more scrupulous care. Since wooden combs cannot be soaked for any length of time, the main cleaning is done with alcohol and a cotton swab (you can use an ear stick).
It is necessary to process not only the outer surfaces, grooves and joints, but also the teeth, as well as the surface over which they are distributed.
Comb-brush
Typically, this type of brush is well tolerated prophylactic procedures using a solution that includes hydrogen peroxide, soap and alcohol. All of the above must be mixed in equal amounts, then soak the working part, completely immersing it in the solution.
It takes about an hour to stand. After that, all that remains is to clean off the remnants of dirt with an old toothbrush.
How to clean dirt from a massage comb?
As a rule, such models are made using three or more materials: base, soft substrate, teeth. This should be borne in mind. Basically, the process takes place using a vinegar-soda solution: pour a couple of tablespoons of vinegar into a couple of liters of warm water and add a tablespoon of soda.
Immerse the brush with the working part in it and leave for 15 minutes. Afterwards, rinse well with running water and leave to dry.
Note! If the base of the brush is made of wood, the vinegar solution will have to be changed to soapy water with the addition of dishwashing detergent.
Metal
Most often, only some parts of the brushes are made of metal: base, teeth, decorative inserts. Completely iron such products are extremely rare, since it is rather difficult to clean a comb of this type, without causing harm.
In most cases, use the following method: metal parts should be lightly sprinkled with water, so that they are only slightly damp. Then, with a medium-hard bristled toothbrush and a little regular baking soda, gently remove any visible dirt.
After that, it is enough to rinse with water to remove the residues and wipe thoroughly.
How to clean a hairbrush
Again, the method should be chosen based on the material from which the brush is made. For example, a plastic product can be washed with any means, while the same made of wood or metal, and especially with a pile, has to be processed only in a certain way.
As a rule, these brushes are made from natural materials, therefore they cannot be washed with any means using chemicals. The best thing to do here is to rinse your work surface with shampoo. Residual dirt will have to be cleaned off additionally, for example, with the same brush or by hand.
Cleaning the round comb
Due to its shape, it is most difficult to put such a "thing" in order. This is partly due to the location of the teeth, and partly due to the bristly protrusions that are often supplied with their bases.
Before you clean the comb from dirt and layers, you should remove all hair from it - the technology is still the same: a toothpick or the tips of sharp scissors. In any case, this must be done without fail! The next step will be to soak the main part of the comb in a special composition, which includes water, hydrogen peroxide, shampoo and ammonia (everything is mixed in equal proportions).
It is required to immerse the brush with the teeth down into the prepared solution and leave it there for half an hour (work in protective gloves - ammonia). Then rinse thoroughly under high pressure water. If there is still dirt, you can brush it off with a toothbrush.
Disinfection of combs
At a minimum, preventive disinfection must be carried out for the handle and body - no one can guarantee that the hands with which this brush is taken are always clean and washed. In addition, a complete disinfection should be carried out once a month.
Usually alcohol or vinegar solution (1: 1) is used for this. Vinegar is used to clean the working part: pour the solution into a tall cup and immerse the brush into it to the desired depth. Soak for 20 minutes, then rinse well. The handle and base are treated with alcohol.
Important! It is impossible not to mention such an unpleasant phenomenon as head lice. In this case, a chlorine solution (10%) is used to disinfect the working part. The holding time should be at least 30 minutes.
Terms of use: recommendations for care
Of course, the basic rules of operation are clear and intuitive, but if an expensive product made of ebony with raccoon hair is thrown under the bed or in the bathroom, it will not last long. Therefore, how to clean the comb, how to handle it, still matters.
It is necessary to adhere to generally accepted recommendations:
- Remove hair and small debris every day, for example, in the evening.
- Deep rinse weekly.
- Do not forget to periodically disinfect this personal hygiene item.
- Products made of wood or with wooden inserts must not be soaked in water and left in a humid environment (in the bathroom).
- Do not use a dirty comb on clean hair.
- After washing, you need to dry everything well to avoid mold.
- Brush with bristles or bristles must be cleaned carefully, taking care not to damage the hairs.
- Change - at least once a year.
Thus, regular care and a careful attitude will significantly extend the life of the comb and maintain an attractive appearance. Often a good mood also depends on its purity.
In most cases, it is. Knowing how to clean a comb, you can successfully use it for a very long time, delighting yourself with a new hairstyle and healthy clean hair.
