Boiling laundry for bleaching
Boiling is a function in almost every washing machine. Mothers and grandmothers turned to a similar method without the use of technology. It has its own advantages over simple washing, but there are also negative sides in relation to some types of fabric. You can find out more in the article.
Why boil laundry
The aesthetic moment in any wash is important. Even if the fabric is disinfected, but remains yellow or gray, it will not bring pleasure to any housewife and family members. The grandmothers did not have modern washing machines, but the linen was snow-white. An especially important topic if there is a crumb in the family. Baby stains take longer and harder to wash off than others.
It is known from school that water boils at 90-100 degrees Celsius. With this temperature regime, bacteria have not the slightest chance of surviving. This is one of the reasons to use this washing method.
Allergy to powders became a topical reason. Even if it is indicated on the packet of powder that it is hypoallergenic, this does not mean that a reaction cannot occur to it. A certain percentage of adults and children are allergic to baby powders. When boiling, which is made with safe means, allergies are excluded.
The purpose of the method is to:
- Disinfection;
- Hypoallergenic;
- The whiteness of the linen;
- Broken washing machine or no digestion function.
To the question "why boil the laundry?" you can answer any of the points or all at once. The choice of method for how to do this is up to you.
Pay attention to the tag that there is a badge on the clothes stating that washing in boiling water is prohibited! Such a limitation must be taken responsibly, otherwise the thing will be damaged.
What can be used for boiling
The hypoallergenicity of the drug is a loud statement from the manufacturer of the powders. However, what can be safe for an allergy sufferer at home:
- Laundry soap;
- Salt;
- Washing powder and baby washing powder;
- White;
- Potassium permanganate;
- Sea buckthorn oil;
- Soda solution.
Cheap and easy to prepare and use. The main thing is to combine everything correctly, since the recipes are different. Coming up with the combination yourself is not a good idea.
The end result will depend not only on which recipe will be used, but also on what and how it will be produced. Bleaching by boiling is recommended to be carried out in an enamel bowl. This can be: a large bucket, a basin, a saucepan, a large bowl.
Can linen be boiled in a galvanized bucket? Definitely yes. The same materials include buckets: enameled, aluminum and metal. It is important that they are not used for food.If you do not take into account the advice, there is a chance to get red instead of white underwear.
It is important to take care of its safety in case of boiling. Since the work will take place with boiling water, although with safe substances, but at such a degree for a person, this poses a risk of getting burned. The best item for stirring laundry is wooden tongs. But if there are none, you can use a wooden stick without paint. We use all items that do not harm the appearance of the linen when they interact.
Can I boil my laundry at home?
The unequivocal answer is yes. This can be personal effort or the work of an automatic machine. In any of the options chosen, it is important to follow the boiling rules. They include many points: taking into account the color of clothes, and the temperature regime, and the items that you will use.
In the case of working with equipment, the complexity of the task decreases, but this does not affect the entire control of the process.
Boiling rules
Boiling rules begin with the selection of inventory. For boiling you need:
- high capacity, which will not stain the laundry when water is heated in it. Pay attention that the sides of the container are high, and hot water does not pour out of it while stirring.
- laundry equipment. Wooden tongs, stick, or similar stirring device.
- selected recipe.
We follow the same rules as when washing in a washing machine. We do not wash colored clothes with white linen. We do not wash the outer garments with underwear.
We take into account that children's clothing needs more safety in the use of boiling agents. And of course, it will be appropriate to wash it separately from an adult.
Boiling by different means: how and what is better
Boiling in any case will be effective if you follow the rules, recipe for cooking and safety. It will not be superfluous to ask your grandmother for valid recipes. Folk remedies are something that is at hand almost always and does not harm either a person or laundry items.
Soda and laundry soap
The cheapest detergent that is always at hand is soda and laundry soap. The recipe for boiling is simple: combine baking soda and laundry soap.
Soda should be in the amount of 20-25 grams per liter of water. In the case of heavily soiled clothing, you can double the amount of the ingredient. You do not need to send soap with a bar to the soda, it will not dissolve. Pre-grate it and mix the shavings with baking soda. The recipe is suitable for all types of fabrics.
Hydrogen peroxide and ammonia
When using these drugs, it is important to observe the sequence and quantity. Otherwise, the result can be disappointing: streaks will remain on the areas of clothing that have not been immersed in water. The consequences of improperly performed manipulations with these products cannot be corrected by washing.
Washing with peroxide and ammonia is not brought to a boil. The water is only heated. Add 1 tablespoon of ammonia and 2 tablespoons of peroxide to a container with 5 liters of water. First, the liquid is heated, then we add things there, stir, rinse in clean, cold water.
Recommended cooking time: 40 minutes. With the correct manipulation, the clothes will acquire a richer color.
Butter
By themselves, oil stains on clothes do not wash off very well, but boiling with them is quite effective.
Recipe: add 2.5 tablespoons of oil (vegetable or sea buckthorn), half a glass of washing powder and one spoonful of dry bleach to a 5-liter container.We heat, put the thing inside, cook and rinse in cold water. This digestion has proven itself to be the best for washing towels.
Salt
It has excellent properties in washing clothes, it is able to remove stains from wine, blood, sweat, helps the laundry to dry faster and preserve the white color of clothes.
For effective boiling, salt is best used in combination with baking soda. Recipe for 8 liters of water: soda and table salt 120 grams each and washing powder - 150 grams. Do not forget to rinse after the entire process.
Potassium permanganate
This drug is not only a household helper, but also an excellent disinfectant. The method can be used for washing under heating conditions and without heating. When boiling, add 200 grams of washing powder and manganese crystals to the water.
The liquid will take on a bright crimson color. Cooking takes place for 40 minutes. It is important to pay attention to ensure that all crystals are dissolved.
Washing different types of clothes
There is no universal detergent for everything. Moreover, when it comes to boiling. In addition, it is worth considering the facts of color shedding, the facts of differences between adult and children's clothing, and pay attention to the type of fabric.
Baby clothes
Baby clothes, especially newborns, need special care and attention to washing. We choose the recipe as hypoallergenic as possible, without strong odors and replace the laundry soap, like the powder, with baby soap.
Tulle
The case of washing in hot water is suitable for tulle, which is made of cotton. Discard the recipe with detergent, choose soap shavings. This is due to the fact that the tulle is sewn from a thin fabric, which requires careful maintenance.
Linens
The boiling method for bleaching and disinfection is most often used in this case. The result will be visible on it as quickly as possible if the bed is white. The recipe is used here the same as in white and colored clothes made of cotton or linen - gentle.
White clothes
If the items have natural fabric, then the result will not be long in coming. Choose a bleach formulation. If the composition contains synthetics, yellowness may appear.
Colored clothes
Boiling rules are the same as washing rules. With an increased frequency, and even more so when boiled, colored things lose their color, become more faded. Therefore, the method should not be used often.
It is important to remember that you do not need to mix colored clothes with white and do not resort to using bleach.
Underwear
We do not boil synthetics, we gently wash the lace with our hands in warm water, never in boiling water. When the underwear is made from natural fabrics, then boiling can be carried out with a recipe: washing powder (half a glass) and soda (5 tablespoons) per five liters of water.
Boiling result
A laborious method can give both an impeccable result and great disappointment.
If the hostess decides to use this technique, it is worth carefully observing each condition:
- Correct application of the technique (only for natural fabrics);
- Correct use of products (for children, avoid using strong odors, washing powders and soaps for adults);
- Using the correct items (enamel bucket, unpainted wooden tongs);
- Safely performed procedure (keep safety precautions when working with high temperatures, a bucket or basin should be chosen with high sides so that it does not splash on you during the heating period);
- Correct completion of washing (rinsing, spinning).
When used correctly, white bed linen will shine with snow-white, colored clothes will retain their color and get rid of stubborn stains, and children's clothes will be clean and disinfected.
Erasing will be easier if there is a washing machine that can rinse the laundry and wring it out. In the absence or malfunction, these processes will need to be done independently.
Before boiling
We select the inventory, the recipe, put the detergents in the water and bring to a boil. Add clothes to boiling water, cook. Then we drain the water with detergents, collect clean water, bring to a boil with linen or clothes. The total manipulation time is often 30-40 minutes.
The process can be carried out in 1 stage of cooking, without replacing the water with clean water.
After boiling
At the end of the manipulation with boiling on the stove, the laundry is taken out with wooden tongs (stick) and rinsed in clean water. It will be convenient to do it in the bathroom.
If there is a washing machine, but the cooking was done on the stove, then it will come to the rescue. The result of boiling will be the transfer of clothes to the drum of the washing machine. We select the rinsing mode, at 40 degrees of water heating. For better washing out of detergents, you can repeat this procedure twice. Next, we select the spin mode and send it to drying.
Boiling in modern living conditions
If you do not want to resort to this method, use a home and modern one. The washing temperature should be at least 90 degrees, whiteness, soda, laundry soap (shavings) or salt can be added to the powder container and washed. It is imperative to rinse well and specify the spin mode in the machine program.
As a rule, all the work takes 2-3 hours, but you will not get tired at all. It is important to consider the same aspects as when boiling by hand regarding lace, synthetics, children's clothing and colored clothing.
As a result, from all of the above, we can draw a simple conclusion: safety comes first. It must be observed, both in relation to the hostess who carries out the washing process, and in relation to things that will be further used. A valid recipe can even come from improvised means. The laborious process justifies the expended effort, looking at the result. Now the breakdown of the washing machine or its poor performance of the function are not scary.
