Design and features of outdoor clothes dryer
Drying clothes at home is often inconvenient. The drying process is long, it increases the humidity in the room and takes up most of the space in the apartment. Especially when the bathroom is small.
It is much more convenient to take the laundry outside to dry. Then the drying material smells especially pleasantly fresh and clean.
The need for clothes dryers
Neatly hung wet laundry makes it easier for the owners to iron and store in the closet in the future. If the damp cloth is crumpled and wrinkled during the drying process, it will form deep creases, which are difficult to get rid of later even with an iron.
In the design of the dryer, it is important at what height and where the fabric dries, how much the strings are stretched, how strong and elastic they are.
The advantages of outdoor drying are obvious:
- the laundry smells good;
- the bathtub is always free of drying clothes;
- you can stretch large sheets and duvet covers on a clothesline;
- you take up any space and dry a large amount of laundry at the same time;
- street dryers are resistant to tipping.
What are the designs
An outdoor dryer must be massive and sturdy. Hanging laundry in a gusty wind forms the effect of a sail and can fly off the cord. For the street, they use wall and ceiling models of stationary dryers, as well as homemade copies.
Attach the fabric to the rails using wooden or plastic clothespins. They do not leave marks even on light-colored materials.
Homemade
You can find a way out of any situation. Even if the need to hang wet things found you far from home, homemade clothes drying will come to the rescue. Basic models are created from improvised tools, pipes, wooden slats and even heavy cardboard spools. It is especially convenient if there are already poles or piles built into the ground:
- any structure driven into the ground in the shape of the letter "P" turns into an excellent helper for drying things;
- A few sturdy cords are enough between the T-bars to dry any wet clothing.
Ready-made constructions
Ready-made structures are divided into stationary and mobile. The first ones are massive, they can withstand strong winds and any bad weather. The latter can be removed or folded as unnecessary. Mobile, convertible models are made of durable yet lightweight materials that are free of dust and dirt.
How to find a place to dry your laundry
There are a lot of options for choosing a place to dry clothes. First of all, you need to build on the presence of free space on the site where children will not play, light a fire or prepare food. And it doesn't have to be a street full of car exhaust fumes.
Drying should be well ventilated.Ideally, avoid open sunlight to prevent fading of colors on clothes during drying. A cool, shady, well-ventilated area is ideal for hanging your washed clothes.
Consider in advance how much space you need for drying laundry if a strong wind blows. The edges of the fabric should not hit a fence, trees, wall or other foreign objects in bad weather.
How to make a dryer with your own hands
Drying house
For this option, any outdoor shed or pergola is suitable. Pull ropes under the roof or attach hooks for several hangers. The "House" is good because you can dry your clothes when it is raining or snowing. It is blown from all sides, linen has constant access to fresh air and is hidden from the scorching sun rays. And the hanger will not allow the clothes to crumple.
Dryer umbrella
The umbrella dryer is compact. For a modest occupied area, it "takes" a large amount of linen. Before installing the structure, take care of a good foundation or screw pile.
This will keep the dryer stable and ensure that the laundry does not fall to the ground. The device folds when not needed, and takes up little space on the site.
Foldable wooden dryer
You can buy such a dryer at any store, or you can create it yourself. There can be a huge variety of models. Find wooden slats of the same length and diameter, fix them in a crossed position and fix them with additional partitions. It remains only to pull the cords and you can hang the laundry. A strong rope will also work.
You can make it even easier: create an analogue of an ordinary step-ladder from the rails, only low, with thin and long beams, on which clothes will dry after washing.
Dryer ladder made of PVC pipes
If you look carefully, after repairing an apartment or summer cottage, there are a lot of PVC pipe scraps. This is an excellent material for creating useful things in everyday life, for example, for a drying structure. It will turn out to be lightweight, reliable and mobile at the same time. The construction of pipes can be rearranged to another place at any time without much effort.
The PVC dryer is easy to clean, the parts are quickly attached to each other. Choose the model of the building to your taste. The system can be in the form of a staircase, a cube or a parallelepiped with rungs.
Wall mounted outdoor dryer
The foldable wall-mounted outdoor dryer takes up a minimum of space and serves as a decoration for the garden area. It will not be difficult to make it yourself. For this you will need:
- take 4 wooden slats from which to assemble a wooden frame;
- in the 2 side rails of the frame, drill holes parallel to each other;
- insert rods made of wood or other sturdy material into the holes;
- prepare a plywood base, which should be at least 10 cm larger than the dryer;
- attach the frame to the plywood using furniture hinges and fixing locks that control the position of the dryer when folded and unfolded;
- attach the finished structure to any stable vertical surface.
Dryer hammock
A hammock dryer is made from wooden sticks, cardboard rolls from foil for baking and other improvised means:
- make several holes parallel to each other in two slats;
- Pull equal lengths of strong ropes through these holes and fix with large knots;
- from four strands of twine of the required length, tie a drying structure along the edges of the slats and hang in a well-ventilated place;
- a mobile clothes dryer on the street with your own hands is ready.
Methods for drying laundry without a dryer
There are many ways to dry laundry without a stationary or mobile dryer.
- Buy a washing machine with a drying function right away. This saves you the hassle of looking for free space to hang your laundry.
- The stores sell special battery mounts with sturdy slats on which you can hang small things. This tumble dryer is handy for small spaces and those who live alone.
- You can buy a separate dryer, in which you can put a lot of clothes at once after washing and more than one overall bedding set.
- If the need to dry finds you far from home, use any hard, flat surface, such as a table, for this. Arrange things so that all folds and details are straightened out. This type of drying is relevant for knitted and other products that are easily deformed and lose their shape.
Drying is easy if you think over the details in advance. Choose a dust-free, blown-out location if the process takes place outside.
From available tools, you can make a dryer of any configuration. The main thing is to check it for stability and resistance to wind gusts.
