Description and disposal of bed mites

There are a lot of domestic pests, and not all of them are in plain sight. One of the dangers to the home that cannot be detected with the naked eye is bed, or dust mites, not to be confused with bed bugs, this is a completely different type of parasite.

People may not even be aware of the presence of insects such as ticks in the living room.

The bed mite reaches 0.23 mm, the body is flattened. This is not a separate species, but the household name for saprophagous mites, which are also called dust mites or linen mites. It feeds on dust and dead human skin, which is enough for bedding, in pile bedspreads and carpets.

dust mite
Due to their small size, a person is unable to see them with the naked eye.

One female in her life (60-85 days) can make about a hundred clutches of up to 60 eggs at a time, most of them hatch if conditions are favorable for them. At temperatures from 18 to 25 degrees Celsius and high humidity, an insect colony can reach several million individuals.

A linen mite bite can present with unpleasant symptoms and require proper treatment.

The main danger of these parasites is that the products of their vital activity cause severe allergies, up to asthmatic attacks and Quincke's edema; children and people with weakened immunity and a tendency to allergies are especially susceptible to this. Despite the fact that, unlike bedbugs, ticks rarely bite a person, this still happens, and, especially if the body is weakened, these bites can lead to extremely unpleasant consequences.

They can be mistaken for food allergies.

Places where parasites are more common:

  • linens;
  • soft headboards;
  • mattresses;
  • down and feather pillows;
  • artificial filling pillows;
  • pile carpets;
  • Stuffed Toys;
  • curtains;
  • sofas and upholstered furniture
  • dusty corners, especially under furniture.

The linen mite has a size of no more than 0.1 mm.

The largest colonies live in bed, because it has the most food for them, and the best conditions. In a dream, a person loses more than 1 gram of skin, this is enough to feed hundreds of thousands of organisms, sweat creates an optimal atmosphere for life and reproduction. In addition to human skin, pets' hair and skin particles are also perceived by ticks as food.

Since there is warmth and the necessary level of humidity in a person's bed, which is most optimal for the reproduction of the pest.

Insects prefer to settle in natural fabrics, but the use of exclusively synthetic materials does not guarantee one hundred percent protection, especially if pillows and mattresses are not exposed to cleaning or wet processing for a long time.

Infection with a linen pest occurs when using natural fabrics and feather pillows.

Insects can be found in almost every home, it is very easy to bring them in, but it is almost impossible to completely remove them. They can bite humans and pets, while often remaining undetected. Even keeping the house perfectly clean, one cannot be one hundred percent sure that there are no microscopic insects in the house. But cleanliness in the house and regular prevention ensures that the parasites do not proliferate enough to harm the health of the inhabitants of the house.

Reasons for the appearance of ticks in the house

The main way to bring parasites into your home is through clothing. There are a lot of mites' habitats: these can be seats in public transport, armchairs and chairs in public places, any soft, nap and textile surfaces that a person comes into contact with. On his clothes, a person brings them into the house. The main time is spring and summer, when the air temperature rises to 18 degrees.

Pests can appear in dusty and hard-to-reach places.

Once in the house, the dust mite quickly begins to multiply in favorable conditions for them. It is especially easy to take root in beds and upholstery, since the temperature and humidity in them are ideal for living, and dust and particles of human skin are an excellent source of food.

Long-pile blankets and pillows are also a frequent occurrence of linen mites, as they are less likely to be washed.

Bed mite bites and symptoms

Unlike bed bugs, the appearance of ticks can go unnoticed, because there are no marks from their bites on the body, but red spots may appear on the body due to the reaction to their discharge. Bed mite bites on the person in the photo look frightening precisely because of the allergic reactions that have manifested themselves, if there is no tendency to allergies, then they may not appear.

Prophylaxis

In order not to turn your home into a habitat for a colony of parasites, you must adhere to a few simple rules:

  • do not go into living quarters in street clothes and, especially, do not sit on the bed in it and, if possible, wash it immediately;
  • do wet cleaning every day and clean it regularly with a vacuum cleaner, not forgetting about hard-to-reach places where dust accumulates;
  • regularly clean curtains, bedspreads and carpets, and, if possible, abandon textiles, or replace them with synthetic ones;
  • regular cleaning of floors and furniture surfaces with disinfectants;
  • frequent steaming of bedspreads, furniture upholstery, soft toys;
  • regular washing and combing of pets, daily cleaning of wool from the floor and furniture;
  • in winter, carpets, pillows and blankets can be taken out onto the balcony or outside.

Sub-zero temperatures are no less destructive for pests than heat.

The use of such simple methods allows not only to reduce the number of linen mites, but also to prevent the formation of other harmful parasites.

Prevention and timely destruction of domestic pests is much more effective and easier than treating the effects of the appearance of parasites in the house, therefore, regular sanitization of rooms, timely dry cleaning of textile surfaces and treatment of bed mattresses and pillows is recommended to significantly reduce the threat of diseases that insects can cause.
