Bleach tulle at home
Over time, snow-white tulle can take on an unpleasant gray or yellow hue, and it only gets worse with each wash. This situation is familiar to every housewife, when, in desperation, she wants to throw out the damaged curtain and buy a new one.
But do not rush to conclusions - there are many ways how to bleach tulle at home and return dazzling whiteness to your beloved curtain.
How and what can you whiten tulle
You can bleach curtains in various ways, using industrial chemicals purchased in the store, or with improvised tools that can be found in the arsenal of every housewife.
At the same time, it is important to choose a method that will allow you to whiten the tulle at home as efficiently as possible, will not damage the fabric, will take a minimum of time and will be affordable.
This can be done in the following ways:
- in the washing machine;
- using industrial chemistry;
- folk recipes (using solutions of salt, soda, brilliant green, ammonia and hydrogen peroxide);
- digestion.
You should pay attention to the texture of the fabric, the presence of colored blotches and lace. Basically, fabrics are divided into two categories:
- Natural materials (silk, cotton, viscose). They are not afraid of high temperatures, spinning and exposure to chemistry.
- Synthetic fabrics (nylon, chiffon, organza) must be cleaned using gentle substances and a delicate wash.
Important! Some fabrics cannot be bleached with harsh chemicals. Before starting the procedure, remove stains, and it is also advisable to soak in detergent and wash.
There is an automatic machine in the washing machine
It is convenient to bleach curtains in the washing machine for several reasons: the chemical does not come into contact with the hands, cleaning is even and fast. Can be combined with the main washing process if there are no deep stains.
For natural fabrics, set any program, spinning and temperature up to 60 ° C, for synthetics - no more than 30 ° C, and a delicate mode without spinning.
The washing algorithm is as follows:
- The curtain is placed in a specially designed bag or blank white pillowcase.
- Dry bleach is added to the main compartment, along with laundry detergent. If a liquid agent is used, it is poured into the drum.
- Set the appropriate mode and start the wash cycle.
Note! Bleach does not clean, old or heavily soiled products are recommended to be washed beforehand. Then start the bleach cycle again.
Salt and soda
Home remedies can give the curtain a flawless whiteness by pre-soaking. These are the most popular and affordable ways to quickly and effectively whiten, especially for synthetics. It is difficult to clean nylon tulle, since no harsh chemicals can be used for it.
Cooking recipes:
- Powder-salt solution is used for severe contamination: for 5 liters of warm water, 30 g of salt and 100 g of powder. Soak for at least six hours, and it is better to leave it until morning.
- The use of soda: dissolve 2 tbsp in 10 liters of water. tablespoons of soda. For the best effect, you can add 100 g of powder. Withstand for half an hour.
Important! For the preparation of the mixture, iodized and sea salt is not used, only ordinary table salt.
The saline solution is effective for getting rid of greasy stains. After soaking the laundry in any solution, it must be rinsed out and, if desired, washed.
Zelenka
A few drops of regular brilliant green will help enhance the effect of the saline solution. To do this, dissolve 5 tablespoons of salt in 5 liters of water. In a separate container, 5-7 drops of brilliant green are added to a small amount of liquid. After complete dissolution, the mixture is filtered and combined with a salt mixture.
Then, pre-washed linen is immersed in the resulting composition for 3-5 minutes. A solution of brilliant green can be used without adding salt, keeping the proportions and processing time.
Important! Do not increase the dose of brilliant green or the soaking time, as this can lead to the appearance of an emerald hue.
Blue
Blue is available in liquid and powder form, so the proportions depend on which composition is used for rinsing:
- Dissolve 1 cap of blue (liquid) in 10 liters of water or prepare according to the instructions in the instructions. Rinse the tulle for 1-3 minutes.
- Dry powder (half a teaspoon) is dissolved in a small amount of water, defended and filtered. The finished concentrate is thoroughly stirred in a basin or other container, and the laundry is soaked for 30-60 seconds. After it, it is advisable to rinse it.
Important! It is better not to put dry bluing directly into the machine, as it may not dissolve well, and stains and streaks will appear on the fabric.
Ammonia and hydrogen peroxide
This method is not applicable for delicate fabrics, since the main condition is soaking at high temperatures. For curtains made of natural materials: add a mixture of ammonia and hydrogen peroxide in a ratio of 1: 3 to 10 liters of hot water (60 ° C or more).
The curtains are immersed for 15 minutes, after which they are thoroughly rinsed.
Potassium permanganate
With the help of potassium permanganate, even a very yellowed tulle can be bleached. To do this, 5 g of the concentrated substance is thoroughly dissolved in 10 liters of water, after which the solution is filtered from the sediment.
After the main wash, the laundry is soaked for 20-30 minutes and rinsed in clean water.
Digestion
Only natural fabrics with heavy contamination can be digested. In an enamel bowl with water, you need to grind or grate a bar of laundry soap.
Then curtains are immersed there and put on fire. After boiling, boil for 60 minutes, stirring constantly. At the end of the process, the laundry is rinsed in warm water and dried.
You should not get carried away with this method - the high temperature can have the opposite effect, and the tulle will turn yellow even more.
Starch
Starch will not only give the curtains a snow-white look, but also give shine and a stable shape. It should be diluted in slightly warm water in this proportion: add 100 g of starch to 5 liters of liquid and stir well, until the lumps disappear.
Tulle is left in this solution for 4-6 hours. Then wring out and dry without rinsing.
Tulle whitening chemicals
Industrial products come in powder, gel or liquid form. It is not easy to understand their abundance and choose how to wash the tulle in order to preserve the fabric and it was snow-white.
To do this, you should familiarize yourself with the main types of bleaches:
- Chlorine products. These include "Whiteness", "Ace" and other inexpensive concentrates. Chlorine is incredibly aggressive and should be used with caution as they damage tissue.
- With free oxygen content. "Vanish", "Amway" and similar products are more gentle, but their use is effective only in hot water, which also negatively affects the structure of the material.
- Optical brighteners include Heitmann and Vanish, but they only create the appearance of dazzling whiteness. The fabric does not bleach properly and the effects are not long-term.
Frequent use of industrial bleaches can lead to rapid deterioration of the fabric, it can turn yellow over time even more. These funds are effective at first, you should not use them more than 2-3 times.
How to remove yellowness from tulle so that it is snow-white
The reasons for the contamination of the tulle are different: grayness can appear due to dust penetrating through the windows, which is cleaned with a regular wash.
But yellowness appears from cigarette smoke, kitchen fumes or direct sunlight, and it is not so easy to get rid of it. In difficult cases, curtain whitening should be approached comprehensively, using several methods.
You can also effectively deal with the problem in the following ways:
- Boric acid with soda ash in a ratio of 1: 1 removes yellowness well. The curtains are left in such a solution overnight, and then washed.
- One sachet of citric acid added during washing will also quickly and efficiently deal with the problem.
- You can add a little vinegar to the water while rinsing - this contributes to the shine of the curtains.
Tulle can turn yellow for various reasons, so it is better to initially try to protect it. Blinds will protect the curtain from burning out in the sun, and a good hood will protect against burning out. It should be washed with the use of high-quality products and observing the temperature regime, at least once a season.
Gentle care will help to keep your favorite curtain fresh and shining whiteness for a long time.
