We wash kitchen towels in different ways at home
Every woman from time to time is faced with the unpleasant problem of old stubborn stains on linen, and especially on kitchen towels. To remove coffee, wine or grease stains, regular washing in a washing machine, even at a high enough temperature, is sometimes not enough. Therefore, modern housewives have come up with many tricky procedures that will not only give the towels pristine cleanliness, but also speed up the cleaning process, save time and nerves.
Terry towels in the kitchen are best used only for drying hands, as they are easy to quickly get dirty. To slow down the process, iron them after washing. For wiping dishes, vegetables and fruits, waffle or smooth towels are ideal. A typical kitchen kit should include:
- hand towel;
- for wiping dishes;
- wiping fruits and vegetables;
- for wiping cutting boards and surfaces.
The more towels you have in your kitchen, the cleaner they will be and the easier it will be to wash them.
Using soda (+ bleach)
This recipe is suitable for bleaching large amounts of laundry. If baking soda is added to the solution instead of bleach, it can have a negative effect on colored fabrics. This method is ideal for white towels.
To prepare the suspension you will need:
- 120 g powder for washing;
- 3 tbsp. spoons of soda;
- 3 tbsp. tablespoons of vinegar essence;
- 15 liters of boiling water.
Mix everything well, place white linen in the solution for 6-7 hours. Then it is sent to the washing machine, where the required washing and rinsing mode is selected. This bleaching method is effective for both waffle and terry towels.
Sunflower Oil Kitchen Towel Bleaching Recipe
There are many ways to bleach laundry without boiling. This procedure has a negative effect on the structure of the fabric, which leads to rapid wear. Home bleaching using sunflower oil is very popular.
The main advantage of this method is the ability to remove stains even on colored fabrics. The product does not affect brightness and does not leave white spots.
Due to the softening and neutralizing effect in relation to the effect of washing powder and bleach on the structure of fabrics, it is possible to delicately bleach towels with vegetable oil. This tool will make old things sparkle with fresh colors.
For soaking you will need:
- 2 tbsp. tablespoons of vegetable oil;
- 2 tbsp. tablespoons of dry bleach;
- 100 g any powder for washing;
- 5 liters of water.
The above ingredients are added to boiling water, mixed well, and dry dirty towels are placed in the resulting solution. They are soaked for 2-3 hours, after which they are washed in the washing machine.
Boiling
This is a very effective and powerful method, especially for completely hopeless specimens. Keep in mind, however, that colored kitchen towels cannot be boiled.
To boil the towels, you will need large-capacity metal dishes, which are filled 2/3 with water and add powder, bleach, stain remover (2 tablespoons per 1 liter of water or based on the proportions of the instructions). Then the container is placed on medium heat, towels are lowered there and, stirring, brought to a boil. After that, the fire is removed and continue to boil for 15 minutes to 2 hours, based on the degree of contamination.
Colored specimens can be boiled for no more than 15-20 minutes. It is very important to stir the contents.
When the procedure is completed, the towels are taken out with special tongs and put into an empty bowl or washing machine for rinsing.
Before boiling with bleach, it is recommended to wash towels in the washing machine or by hand.
With soda and soap
Washing powder can be replaced with a mixture of 72% laundry soap and baking soda. It is better to grate the soap on a medium grater and add 2 tbsp. tablespoons of shavings per 1 liter of water. Soda - at the rate of 1 tbsp. spoon for 1 liter of water. It is better to prepare the solution in a large metal container, which is set on fire and boiled for 20 minutes to 1-1.5 hours.
Soda and soap are also used separately from each other. The same solution can be used for a washing machine, it is not at all necessary to boil the laundry, especially if the stains are fresh.
With butter
Boiling and bleaching dirty towels using vegetable oil? For many, this phrase is perplexing. However, there is no mistake here.
Whitening kitchen towels with oil:
- 5 liters of hot water;
- 1/2 cup washing powder
- 1 tbsp. a spoonful of bleach (powder);
- 3 tbsp. tablespoons of oil.
Washing with oil is very common among housewives in Japan. On a bucket of water with a temperature of 60 degrees, take 2-3 tbsp. tablespoons of vegetable oil, as well as 1 tbsp. a spoonful of vinegar and mustard powder. Dry dirty towels are loaded into the bucket and kept for 12 hours. The reservoir is covered with a lid for a longer temperature preservation. Then the towels are rinsed, constantly alternating cold and hot water. The procedure is repeated at least 4 times.
These solutions can also be used for boiling, but infrequently, since they have a destructive effect on the structure of the fibers, the fabric becomes thinner and loses strength. Soaking according to the specified recipe has a more gentle effect on fabrics, while the effect will be almost the same.
If the stains are very old, you can first soak the towels in a solution of powder and baking soda: the product will soften the dirt embedded in the fibers of the fabric, moreover, the thing will stop smelling unpleasant.
With mustard

- 2 pots with a capacity of 6-7 liters;
- 1/4 piece of laundry soap in the form of shavings;
- 5-7 crystals of potassium permanganate.
To begin with, water is poured into both pans and brought to a boil. In one of them, 5-7 crystals of potassium permanganate dissolve, while ensuring that the water has a pinkish tint, but not dark. In another pan, with constant stirring, dilute the soap shavings. Then the contents of both pots are poured into a large basin and the towels are loaded there for 6-7 hours. You can cover the basin to keep the water hot for as long as possible. After the time has elapsed, the laundry is washed and rinsed in the usual way.
