Different ways to catch a mouse without a mousetrap
Mice are bred regularly and everywhere. This problem is acute in private houses, in city apartments on the first and second floors, in offices on the first floors. It arises sharply in grocery stores and in apartments that are located next to such retail outlets. If at least one mouse starts up in the room or begins to look into it, then a whole flock will soon appear here. Therefore, for the residents of such apartments, the question of how to catch mice at home always remains relevant.
Mice are extremely harmful to humans and their everyday life. How these animals constantly gnaw everything they get to, and it can be not only food:
- Wooden crafts
- Wires and wiring
- Carton boxes
In addition, mice can equip nests in secluded and warm corners of premises, and this is already a direct road to disaster from mice.
But the main thing is that rodents are carriers of fleas, lice and all sorts of infectious diseases, including plague, cholera and others. Therefore, the products that have tried the mouse should never be eaten, even after cutting off the spoiled piece.
At the same time, animals are very careful - it is not always possible to notice the presence of a rodent. Therefore, the mousetrap will be very useful not only in rooms where signs of the presence of rodents have already appeared, but also where they can potentially start.
Mousetraps are sold at hardware stores or large renovation and furnishings malls. But there is not always time to look for a mousetrap, and there is no point in ordering one such item via the Internet. In addition, it is recommended to change mousetraps regularly for the following reasons:
- For hygiene reasons. Otherwise, the products will become breeding grounds for ticks, fleas and lice.
- Mice leave odors and catch them very well. Therefore, if at least one rodent has visited the mousetrap, and even more so several, the smells of "mouse panic" will remain on the walls of the device. The following animals will bypass the trap.
The question arises: how to catch a mouse in the house without a mousetrap. It turns out that this is very easy to do with the help of simple improvised devices.
How to make a mousetrap from a bottle and catch a mouse in it
The most common way to make a mousetrap is by using a plastic bottle. This is a fairly simple construction of a falling type, from which it is impossible for a mouse to escape. Ease of manufacture is also very important, as such devices need to be changed regularly.
To make it you will need:
- Plastic bottle 1.5 or 2 l
- Nylon thread
- Board or plywood for the base
- 3 small bars
- Knife and scissors
First you need to make a lard bait. It is better not to use sausage or cheese - these products dry out quickly and cease to smell appetizing. And fat will remain attractive to rodents for a long time. It is necessary to string pieces of bacon on a nylon fishing line.
Then you need to thread a long nail or metal rod through the bottle in its middle - this will be the base of the rocking chair. Fix the rod on wooden blocks on both sides of the bottle. You also need to attach a bar 3-4 cm high to the base opposite the neck of the bottle. This block will become a locking device. Closer to the bottom, you need to make two punctures and pull the fishing line through the holes from the inside. After that, you need to fix the bait. As soon as the mouse jumps over the bar into the neck of the bottle, the latter bends down, the neck drops to the bar and the exit is closed. When the mouse goes to the bait, the neck rises and the exit opens. However, when the animal returns, the bottle falls down again.
The advantage of the product is that several mice can be caught here. In the trap, the mouse moves freely, it has food and for the time being it is not aware of the danger. This means that it does not issue alarms for relatives.
How to catch mice with glue
Another easy way to catch mice is with glue or tape. To do this, you need plywood or a wooden block about 20X20 cm in size. It is better not to use cardboard, since over time the glue will dissolve and flow through it. Then you will have to scrub the substance from the floor or furniture. Glue is applied to the block from all sides, and in the middle you need to leave free space where to put the bait. The glue should be chosen on a resin basis or special for mice. The main thing is that this substance does not solidify for a long time and be very viscous. Strong double-sided construction tape may also work.
You need to install such a trap in places where there are no drafts - otherwise the glue will dry out quickly. The devices are very convenient for their simplicity. But only one mouse can get here - the second will not follow after it.
Ultrasonic Mouse Repeller
Such devices are more suitable for country houses and open areas of nature. They scare away rodents well from basements, beds and other large areas. But rodents are very intelligent animals, it is not for nothing that they are trained and used in the circus. Very quickly, animals understand that the sound, although unpleasant, does not pose any danger. When an animal is faced with a choice between hunger and discomfort, it will make a choice in favor of food over convenience. And after some time, mice get used to the noise so much that they cease to perceive it.
Mousetrap from the can
The can mousetrap is one of the simplest devices. To do this, you need to take a glass jar with a volume of 1-2 liters. Inside, attach the bait to the tape - a piece of bacon or sausage. Put the jar upside down, propping it up on one side with a 5-ruble coin. To do this, the coin must be placed on the edge. The device is ready to use!
It turns out a rather wobbly structure, which the mouse will inevitably overturn. The bait must be attached at a distance of 10-12 cm from the neck. The point is that the mouse, trying to get food, jump on the walls. Then the bank will swing, the coin will fall and slam the structure.
Nondelivery traps:
- One device can catch one mouse
- The trap doesn't always close
Get a cat
Another time-tested way to catch mice at home is to get a cat. This method has many advantages:
- Cats, like mice, are very intelligent animals. And they change their hunting tactics depending on the behavior of the mice
- Cats can track mice for a long time
- They smell the appearance of rodents, that is, they are the best watchmen
- Can get an animal from any shelter
- Pleasant family members or neighbors
However, this method also has its drawbacks. Cats are living creatures, and by introducing them even in a garage or a store, the owner takes responsibility for them. It is not ethical or humane to leave an animal to its own devices when moving. Unfortunately, dozens of volunteers take such orphaned animals from their summer cottages in the fall, where they are brought in for the summer to catch rodents.
The cat needs care, including veterinary control. Since mice are carriers of fleas, lice and ticks, the cat will inevitably receive intruders during the hunt. Then insects can settle in an apartment or basement, attack people. Flea bites are painful. At the same time, through a flea bite, it transmits various viruses and infections, as well as eggs of worms. In order to avoid such troubles, the cat's fur must be regularly treated from insects and put on an anti-flea collar.
In addition, the animal must be vaccinated. When hunting, the cat bites mice, which means that various diseases are also transmitted through the blood. Otherwise, a mouse hunter can cause serious harm, becoming a carrier of diseases such as plague, cholera and others.
A beautiful, well-groomed and vaccinated cat will become the best guard against rodents and a good reliable friend.
