Instructions for making decorative panels
The hostesses have always tried to decorate the home with all kinds of figurines, ceramics, wicker baskets or macrame elements. Nowadays, it became possible to create whole pictures from various improvised means, as well as natural materials.
What is a panel
A wall composition or an art object that can be made in any technique, sometimes from completely unexpected materials - this is a panel. It can be placed both inside and outside the building, and even on the ceiling.
Differences between a panel and a painting:
- performance technique;
- design: a painting needs a canvas, a frame and a stretcher, and the panel can be placed on any basis and simply on the wall or not at all;
- variety of materials used;
- wall panels are a space for a flight of creative imagination.
A panel on the wall is not always a picture, it is not only a decoration or addition to the interior, but it can also help to hide some defects. Various materials are used for its manufacture: from beads and buttons to metal shavings, from paper and fabric to ceramic tiles and glass.
How can you make it yourself from scrap materials
Wood is a classic material for making unusual panels. They use carving elements, which display subject compositions with images of animals or people, as well as abstract ornaments or patterns. However, only masters can create such masterpieces.
To make a decorative panel on the wall with your own hands, you can use boards of different shapes and sizes, as well as cuts with interesting patterns. All this beauty can be collected into a single composition and decorate the wall. Natural wood emits pleasant smells and positive energy, and, therefore, such panels will not only decorate the room, but also create a special atmosphere.
To create a wall composition, any available materials from wood, fabric, paper, plastic, ceramics or glass are suitable.
Tools for the job
To create work, no special tools are required, most often this is what is in every home: needles, threads, glue, hammer, nails, rope, fishing line, scissors, construction knife, wire, small saw, pliers, tweezers, glue gun, hair dryer.
The choice of material and manufacturing rules
If you choose a ready-made panel for decorating a room, then you must take into account the style of room decoration, colors, tastes of the owners and financial costs. It's a completely different matter when the composition is created by hand. This makes it possible to independently choose a theme, materials, sizes, color palette, texture and adjust costs.
Most often, to create a panel, they use what is at hand: threads, buttons, grains, cereals, pasta, plastic bottles, natural material and much more. Of course, in art salons, art products are presented, for the manufacture of which they used:
- photo printing;
- metal or sawdust;
- ceramics;
- colored glass;
- many other items that are of high cost.
The technique is similar to doing crafts in handicraft lessons at school. To make a panel, no special skills and knowledge are required, but it is worth adhering to some sequence and simple rules:
- First you need to decide on the location.
- Think over and choose a thematic direction.
- Prepare the necessary materials and tools.
- For beginners, draw up a step-by-step work plan.
- In small rooms, large panels will visually reduce the space.
- In a large room, you can use the entire wall for one story, or place several small decorations, united by one theme and color scheme.
- In a very bright and colorful room with many decorative elements, panels should be selected in soothing colors with a minimal combination of colors.
- The main goal is to make everything beautiful and unique.
Photo
Photos have been used in interior design for a very long time. It would seem that this is surprising? However, it is enough to change the design method.
Any photos are suitable for work:
- beautiful city landscapes;
- natural landscapes;
- plants and animals;
- black and white and color.
Perhaps the simplest and most original example is the creation of a family tree. An imitation of a tree trunk with branches is attached to a large wall made of thick cardboard or thin plywood. On each branch, photos of family members or a whole clan are placed. In addition to portraits, if space permits, you can post photos with interesting life moments. Frames can be decorated with sakura flowers and leaves.
Watch
A panel in the form of a clock can fill not only a small space, but also decorate the entire wall of a room. To do this, in the center of the composition, you need to place a clock mechanism with arrows, which can be decorated with flowers. Then divide the wall into 12 sectors at equal distances from each other. In each sector, place illustrations with the seasons by seasons (a sector of three photos of winter, summer, autumn and spring), decorating with twigs, leaves, flowers, birds, insects. You can post interesting photos from your life.
Such an unusual design of the clock will look good not only at home, but also in the office; this idea is very relevant for kindergartens or schools.
Textile
Very original wall compositions with applique elements are made of fabric. The plot is selected depending on the purpose of the room.
For the nursery, you can use funny animals or fairy-tale characters.
The Patchwork technique will be relevant for any room. Making a panel from scraps is a troublesome business that requires patience, imagination and accuracy. To give volume to some elements: animals, petals or leaves, you can put cotton wool under them, and then glue the contours to the base of the product.
Correctly selected elements turn such works into real masterpieces.For example, from ordinary scraps of fabric, you can convey the exotic world of Savannah or display the symbols of ancient Egypt, the unique beauty of blooming magnolia or lotus flowers.
Paper
The easiest way to create a panel with your own hands is from colored paper or cardboard. To do this, you can use scraps: roll them into rolls and unfold them in the form of a relief pattern. Another option is to assemble with an accordion in the form of fans or make colored balls out of them.
Small cones can be rolled up from small colored pieces of paper for notes and, by placing them at different angles, create colored patterns or unusual bright flowers. It is easy to fix them with PVA glue.
From ceramic tiles
Most often, in a house or apartment, ceramic panels are found in the bathroom or in the kitchen. Modern manufacturers offer a huge selection of ready-made drawings and whole paintings applied to a variety of tiles. Recently, the Patchwork technique has been very popular - the creation of a panel from tiles with different patterns. The main thing is the correct selection in the combination of colors, otherwise excessive diversity can lead to chaos.
You can create original options with your own hands from a battle of ceramic tiles, glass, river pebbles or seashells. Panels made of glass or mirrors are considered trendy. Mirror compositions will help to visually expand small spaces.
Additional crafting ideas
There are a lot of ideas for creating panels. You can use ready-made plots and add a little of your own. More creative individuals always strive to create something new and creative. The flight of human fantasy is endless, the main thing is to find ways and possibilities for its expression.
Macrame
The macrame technique is used to make flower pots, cushions, small rugs and lampshades. However, knot weaving also looks very original in the design of the panel and is currently a fashionable trend. It is especially important for decorating interiors in Scandinavian, ethnic or eco style, and in country or Provence you simply cannot do without a macrame panel. Such compositions can be found in the interior design of cafes, restaurants or offices.
For such work, you can take as a basis a sheet of plywood of the required size and outline the contours of future elements with a simple pencil. Then, ordinary nails are hammered along this contour at a short distance so that half of the length remains on top. After that, all the tops are braided with a rope or twine. Weaving techniques vary.
New Year's panel
To create a New Year's story, you can use a regular picture frame, decorate it with fragments of broken toys using silicone glue or a pistol. Fasten spruce or Christmas tree branches diagonally at the bottom of the frame, preferably with cones. Spray artificial snow on them. Place an angel on one of the branches, and decorate the others with Christmas decorations. Stars or snowflakes can be glued to the top of the frame. It remains only to choose the right place to place the New Year's masterpiece.
Children's panels
Children are perhaps the best dreamers. They love to learn about the world around them and constantly invent something. They will enthusiastically accept the idea of co-creation.
You can use seashells, pebbles, starfish, fishing nets, pieces of coral and even sand for the children's panel "Marine life". As a basis, you can take an already primed and dried plywood sheet, and choose ordinary sand as a background.To fix it, it is necessary to coat small areas of the surface with PVA glue and sprinkle them with sand - thus filling the entire space. Shake off excess grains of sand and cover the surface with acrylic varnish.
After the base has dried, you can start creating marine life: fish, crabs, starfish. Decorate the seabed with rock grottoes and algae. It is better to use a glue gun to glue the parts.
From coffee beans
Very original and stylish panels are made from coffee beans. Sometimes they are found in the interiors of cafes or coffee houses, they can also be an excellent decoration for any kitchen. It is easy to lay out a picture of any size from the grains. In addition to beauty and positive mood, such a work will fill the room with a unique aroma of coffee.
For the manufacture of panels, not only toasted, but also green beans are selected, as well as large and small coffee crumbs. So, for example, you can make a panel depicting two cats. Silhouettes of cats are drawn on a sheet of thick cardboard, and then coffee beans are glued with a glue gun.
You can make one cat brown, and use white grains for the other, which you can easily get by painting with paint from a spray can. When the cats are ready, it remains to arrange the background: fill the lower part of the space with large green crumbs, and the top of the panel with very small brown crumbs. You can use PVA glue.
The finished product should be opened with several layers of varnish to securely fix all the elements.
How and where can be placed in the interior (+ photo ideas)
It is best to place the panel on a wall free from decor. It should be taken into account how it fits into the situation and the concept of finishing the room.
