How to make a home fragrance
Until recently, the most common and almost the only way to get rid of unpleasant odors in the house was a can of air freshener in the toilet room. Today on sale it is easy to find dozens of devices for air flavoring for every taste. It is not difficult to make perfumes for your home and with your own hands.
What is home perfume for?
Even a good exhaust hood, air conditioners, humidifiers and regular ventilation will not completely rid your home of unpleasant odors. You can call the master and install a shower stall with an aromatization function in the bathroom. However, this will only solve the problem for the bathroom.
Pleasant smells are one of the components of comfort. It is impossible to make the atmosphere at home more comfortable if the air is filled with "amber" from overcooked meat, sweaty bodies and spilled nail polish remover. Fragrances are perfumes for your home. An important element of comfort.
What are home fragrances
- Aroma candles.
- Sprays and automatic dispensers.
- Diffusers.
- Aroma lamps.
- Incense.
- Essences.
- Sasha and potpourri.
- Gels.
- Interior perfumes.
Neutralizers are distinguished into a separate class. They do not scent the air, but they block unpleasant odors. There are models with antibacterial properties. Available in the form of essences, sprays, gels, tablets.
How to choose and where to buy
Choosing a diffuser is a matter of taste. So is the selection of refill and bamboo sticks. The principle of operation of these devices is extremely simple. The sticks absorb the refill, spreading the aromas throughout the room.
100 milliliters of liquid disperses pleasant odors throughout a room up to 10 square meters. for 30-45 days.
Home air freshener with sticks and liquid is one of the most economical and effective fragrances. When the bamboo is no longer suitable for a scent diffuser, sticks can be used as a freshener for clothes hanging in the closet.
It is better to choose candles from natural materials: wax or mineral base, cotton wick, not lead base.
Aroma lamps. They differ in the way essential oils are heated:
- A thermoblock powered by a power supply or a battery.
- Burning candles.
- A converter powered by a computer via the USB interface.
Important! It is not recommended to use lamps for more than two hours in a row! A large amount of aroma oil sprayed into the atmosphere of the room can cause headaches.
Sprays are worth buying if you need to quickly "kill" unpleasant odors locally: in the corridor, in the kitchen, in the pantry, on the balcony, in the toilet. When choosing an automatic dispenser, you should focus on the area of the room (some models ennoble rooms up to 50 sq.m. with pleasant smells).
Essences. Most often bought for a car, but you can use it at home. The essence solution is usually placed in a small container. Evaporation of liquid flavoring occurs through special holes in the bowl or through wicks.
The choice depends only on taste. The same applies to gels, in which a jelly-like concentrate of refreshing substances is packaged in special aroma blocks.
Incense. Sold in the form of sticks, cones, spirals. Emit aromatic substances when smoldering.
All of the above devices for air freshening and consumables for them can be purchased in specialized retail and electronic stores, trade networks.
First of all, it is worth focusing on whether you personally like the smell. When buying, you should avoid fragrances that have the designations DINP, PVC, DEP, DHP, DIDP, BBP, V, three in a triangle of arrows on the packaging. All of these products contain phthalic compounds and are not environmentally friendly. Phthalate Free products are safer for your health.
Also, do not buy inexpensive aromatic products "Fix-Price", "Zara Home", "Auchan", "The Body Shop". They have a high alcohol content and, which is more harmful to the body, perfume oils.
Safer formulations from natural ingredients: "Elfarma", "Iris", "Styx". Pay attention to the ingredients that make up your fragrance consumables.
DIY home fragrance
Do-it-yourself home fragrance is easy! Here are some ways to quickly freshen up the air when guests arrive. How to make a flavoring:
- Put a baking dish or a metal bowl with a solution of vanilla extract (2-3 tablespoons) in a preheated oven with an open door. Leave for 20 minutes. The persistent aroma of vanilla will kill all unpleasant odors for 8-12 hours.
- Cotton freshener. Pick up an essential oil that is pleasant to smell and put a few drops on cotton pads. The fragrance for shelves, wardrobe and table is ready!
- DIY gel. Make jelly from the gelatin dissolved in boiling water and add a few drops of aromatic oil to the mixture. Put in the freezer, allow to harden. Divide into several portions, put in open containers (molds, saucers, etc.) and place on cabinets, bedside tables, windowsill. As the jelly melts, aromas will begin to spread throughout the house.
There is nothing difficult in making a diffuser for the house with chopsticks with your own hands. As a container, you can use a bottle of cologne with the dispenser removed, a jug with a narrow neck. Alternatively, a jar with a screw cap. In the latter case, you will have to drill a small hole, the diameter of which is enough to insert the sticks. An unusual but easy-to-make homemade diffuser is ready!
All that remains is to buy cane or bamboo sticks and essential oil. Dry wood twigs can be used. Now you need to pour the aromatic liquid into the container and insert the sticks.
How to apply essential oils
Essential oils should never be used internally! Poisoning and even death are not excluded. Most oils are highly concentrated and must be diluted with water to apply to the skin. Use as a flavoring agent:
-
Light a candle, let the wax melt, blow out. Apply a few drops of concentrated oil. Light the candle again - the fragrance will quickly spread throughout the room.
Be careful! The liquid must not come into contact with the open flame of the candle!
- Pour water into an aroma lamp heated by a candle flame, add a few drops of oil.
Can also be used for aromatherapy. Lavender, ginger and peppermint oils can relieve minor headaches. Dissolve in water, rub into the back of the neck, temples, forehead. Lavender, sage, and chamomile can help cope with insomnia. Lemon eucalyptus repels mosquitoes well. Cypress, basil, rosemary and myrtle help relieve dizziness.
If you don't want to buy store-bought air fresheners, you can always make a do-it-yourself fragrance. It is not difficult and will not take long. Particular attention should be paid to the ingredients of a purchased home perfume. Even expensive products from well-known brands can contain toxic substances.
