How to make a mouse pad at home
The mouse pad is not only comfortable, but also protects your desk from unnecessary scratches. Despite the fact that now you can find any rug to choose from, you can make it yourself using available tools. Below are examples of materials you can use in place of a mouse pad. Some of them can be easily found in the house, but something will have to be purchased. But in general, the do-it-yourself manufacturing process is quite exciting and is able to develop imagination.
You will learn how to make mouse pads from the following materials:
- Linoleum;
- Corrugated cardboard;
- Tablet for papers;
- Leather;
- Plexiglass;
- Ornamental foam.
Linoleum rug
It can be easily made, because after the renovation, pieces of unnecessary material could probably remain in the house - give it a new life. It is enough to cut a piece 21x25 cm in size and carefully round the edges. To do this, you can use a round object: a glass or scotch tape, circle it with a pencil and remove the excess. The homemade rug is ready, but you can decorate it if the appearance does not suit you.
Important! To avoid unnecessary bends, you can iron a piece of linoleum through a dense fabric so that it lies as evenly as possible on the table surface. Due to the fact that it consists of several layers, there is no need to additionally glue it from below, because such a carpet will not slide much on the table. This is one of the simplest options, as it only requires cutting and decoration.
Cardboard mat
This material can be found in any home, cut out a part from an unnecessary corrugated box and, in order to prevent it from sliding on the table, glue a cloth on the bottom or use an anti-slip impregnation for furniture. For outdoor decor, you can also use a piece of pretty fabric or print a picture that can be covered with transparent self-adhesive film. Or buy a self-adhesive with a picture.
You can also use special tape, stickers, drawings for decoration. And so that it lasts a long time, and the decorative surface is not damaged, use transparent film. You can take the remnants of the packaging film or gift bags, which are cut to the shape of the product and glued over it. A stylish and original solution will help to make a personal mouse pad and give a second life to things.
From a tablet for papers
This is a ready-made part that does not need to be cut, it only needs an external decoration. To do this, you first need to attach a black sheet of paper so that there are no glare, and on top of the black white one can be decorated. The rug should be moderately smooth, if the lower part is too slippery, then you can sheathe or glue it over with a cloth. Please note that tablets come in both small and large sizes.
If you order from the Internet or ask someone to buy, then immediately consider the desired size. If the tablet slides on the table, you can glue pieces of felt or any similar material down to keep the mat firmly on the table surface. The clamp can be left or removed if desired. With the first option, the decor process will be quite simple and you can prepare several options that will change. Also, the tablet in its free time from working at the computer can perform its previous functions.
Leather rug
An ideal option for a homemade product, because the mouse will glide well on such a surface. You can make a minimalistic home rug by taking pieces of leather and gluing them together, you can sew the edges on a typewriter or do it by hand, but first marking with a pencil. Leather can be used from old shoes, jackets, bags, etc.
Note! If the skin is thin, then it is better to stick it on a denser material. It is not necessary to decorate it, but if you wish, you can apply a minimalistic pattern or embroidery. Leather itself looks beautiful and stylish, so the decor does not have to cover the entire surface. Of course, if the material is already quite old and traces of wear are visible in some places, then it is better to mask them.
Plexiglass rug
Quite a difficult thing to make, but incredibly beautiful. You need to use LEDs, thick paper, glass, wire, superglue, wine stopper, USB cable. The first step is to connect the cable to the LEDs and secure them with pliers. Plexiglas is given the shape and size of the rug. The cork will function as legs, so you need to divide it into 4 even parts and glue the parts to the plexiglass.
Here you need to glue the LEDs, and attach thick paper from the outside, cutting out the desired pattern on it. The result is the perfect gaming mat for the real gamer. With such an accessory, any game will become more enjoyable, and you can feel like a hero from the future.
Craft foam
Such a rug requires foam, a knife, acrylic paints or gouache, tape and sealant. The desired shape is cut out of the foam and you can start decorating it with paints, creating an unusual geometric pattern or any other pattern of your choice. Scotch tape is needed so that when creating a geometric pattern, the paint does not go beyond the boundaries. Finally, the surface is treated with a sealant for protection.
Features of making a play mat
- It is necessary to determine the size of the product and take into account that the rug should not slide on the table. For this, special coatings or fabrics are used;
- The mouse, on the other hand, should slide well;
- To make the rug look neat, you can round the edges of the part: use a glass or jar that is round in shape and trace around the edges with a pencil. This must be done before applying the film or fabric;
- To make the paper or fabric lay flat on the edges without creating unnecessary folds, make cuts at the rounding points and glue the pieces of fabric or paper one at a time. Then the edges will be smooth and beautiful;
- If you are using paint or paper, be sure to apply a film on top so as not to ruin the decor with the mouse. Remember that the surface will be actively used by the mouse, so consider this moment.
How to replace the mouse pad
If you don't want to spend money on a special accessory and don't want to make it yourself, you can replace the rug with a thick notebook, magazine, or a piece of cork sheet. The main criterion is density and corresponding dimensions. The rug may be beautiful, but convenience comes first.
You can also use a spine from an old notebook or book that has been irretrievably damaged. Cut off a piece of the spine and tape the edges with duct tape or tape to keep everything looking neat. Remember that you can make your own mouse pad from scrap materials. It will reliably protect your desk from scratches and ensure the convenience of working at your computer. Such an accessory made by yourself can be used independently, or you can give it as a gift. The backlit plexiglass option will be especially pleasant for gamers.
