How to make a box from newspaper tubes
Any hand-made made with high quality and neatness is a unique thing in the house, which will give the interior uniqueness and originality. So, for example, wicker boxes of various shapes and sizes can be made from newspaper tubes. At the same time, the product can be given a certain shape, fitting it into the general atmosphere of the house.
How to make a beautiful box out of newspaper tubes
In order for beautiful caskets from newspaper tubes to come out during manufacturing, it is necessary to complete all the work in stages, as indicated in the instructions. All elements of the future product must be the same in thickness (diameter) so that the finished structure looks neat.
Preparation of tools and materials
To make wicker newspaper boxes attractive, you must complete the following preliminary steps:
- Pick up the source material - sheets of newspapers and magazines in the right amount.
- PVA glue - it is best to take one that has a dispenser.
- The needle is at least 30 cm long and small in diameter (up to 2 mm). If not, it can be replaced with rigid, rigid wire.
The second stage of the preparatory work consists in weaving, or rather, twisting of individual elements. This requires:
- Cut the newspaper strip into several pieces. Most often, rectangles are performed with a side ratio of 1: 4. Sizes in this case do not play a key role, but the longer the tubes are, the easier it will be during the weaving process.
- Then a knitting needle is taken and one corner of the paper is wound neatly around it. Then it is necessary to lubricate the surface of the paper with glue and wind it around the knitting needle.
-
Pull the needle out carefully without breaking the tube.
It is important to roll the strip of paper at a 45 ° angle so that it is thick enough but flexible at the same time.
-
If the tube turns out to be short enough, then it will be necessary to merge several elements into one, longer one.
To do this, take two tubes. One finds a thick part and PVA glue drips into it and gently smears it. A thin edge is found at the second tube and inserted into a hole greased with glue. Fix for a few seconds so that the glue has time to set. After that, the tube of the desired size will be ready.
Weaving caskets
To make a box of newspaper tubes with your own hands beautiful enough, you need to weave according to the step-by-step instructions, which are presented below:
- For a round bottom of the box, you need to take 4 bundles of tubes, each of which will have 5 pieces.
- Weave them crosswise, placing the knot in the middle and roll them on top with a rolling pin.
-
Then it is necessary to wrap each element from left to right and intertwine around several tubes with a certain step. This is the so-called "string" method.First, pass the tube through three straws - make this movement several circles. Then the amount in the bundle is reduced to two tubes. And then they begin to weave through one tube.
It is important that during weaving, all the tubes that radiate from the base are evenly distributed throughout the entire circle.
- After the base is finished, it is necessary to wrap the tubes up in order to form the side part.
-
The sidewall is woven through one tube, weaving elements and attaching the ends to each other.
It is important that each subsequent horizontal row of tubes in the side part is intertwined in a checkerboard pattern. That is, if in the bottom row the tube covers the vertical line of the frame on the outer (front) side, then in the next row it should intertwine along the wrong side.
Thus, it is braided up to the upper edge and the last element of the tube is neatly tucked inward.
With lid
If you want to make a product with a lid, then you should follow these instructions:
- Collect the required number of long tubes that will match the width of the lid, with a margin of approximately 5 cm on each side.
- Then, starting from one of the sides, begin to weave them in a perpendicular direction. At the same time, at the edges, it is important to wrap the tube in the opposite direction and continue weaving in reverse.
- After the cover sheet is received, the free ends will stick out from both sides.
They will need to be refueled. To do this, they must be tucked into the weaving, using an awl and pushing the end under the weaving line at the base. It is necessary to fill in the ends from the inside of the lid so that they do not spoil the appearance of the finished product.
Fox
In order to decorate the interior, you can make not only standard boxes from newspaper tubes, but also funny figures.
To do this, the paper tubes must be woven exactly according to the pattern. Therefore, initially you will need to draw an image, for example, of a chanterelle. Don't think it's too hard. It is enough to make the body in the form of a small cylinder with an open top. The legs are woven as separate elements. And the triangular narrowed muzzle is a separate element in the form of a lid. From above, small ears are redone, which can be made of thick cardboard. Eyes, nose and antennae are made separately from any convenient material at hand.
Using this technology, you can make any funny image of an animal, tree, or any other object that can decorate the interior and make it more functional. After all, for example, if you make a reclining fox's face, the cylindrical body can be used as a container for storing pens and pencils.
Heart-shaped box
To make a heart-shaped box, it is necessary to cut out the bottom in the shape of a heart from cardboard. You need two such identical elements. Tubes are laid on one of them, and 2 sheets of cardboard in the shape of a heart are glued on top.
After that, the tubes are bent upwards and the usual weaving of the side element begins around them.
Square box
The square look of the box is similar to the previous product. In this case, the design can be different in size, color, texture.
The cover can be made as an additional element and fixed on special hinges. But, if this option does not suit you, then you do not need to fill the free ends from the sidewall on one side. Take them for the lid and continue weaving the plane.
It will be original to complement the wicker box with a lockable lock. To do this, a lock is attached to the cover and the opposite side. It can be made of leather or leatherette, or you can pick up metal fittings.
Round box
In weaving a round basket or casket, they use the same technique as in previous products. With one only difference - here you should very carefully and evenly distribute the outgoing base tubes around the circumference. Otherwise, the pattern on the walls may look uneven. And from this, the product becomes sloppy and sloppy.
Weaving a rectangular box
The rectangular box is woven in the following sequence:
- First, the base is executed. If the product is small in size, then you can immediately start making this part from newspaper tubes. If a fairly massive box is assumed, then it is worth strengthening the bottom with the help of cardboard elements.
- Then, when the bottom is braided, they begin to erect the side walls. The rod lines that go up must be long enough to create the desired size structure.
- When the sidewalls are finished, they begin to manufacture the lid. It can be made as a separate element or as a continuation of one of the walls. In the second case, it is necessary to provide at the same time sufficient flexibility and strength at the junction of the two elements.
Decor features
If you don't like the grayish appearance of twisted newspaper tubes, you can give the surface a different shade. It can be achieved with acrylic paints of any shade. It is enough just to paint with a thin layer either ready-made twisted tubes or sheets of newsprint beforehand before the individual elements are obtained.
In addition, the application of acrylic lacquer or paint helps to strengthen the mechanical characteristics of the finished product. Such a painted box, craft or box will not be affected by moisture.
Also, in addition to changing the color, you can give it a different structure. The initially twisted tubes appear as an elongated cylinder. Therefore, when weaving, the outer surface of the product is wavy. Such waves travel in a horizontal direction.
If you don't like them, then you can roll the tubes with a rolling pin. At the same time, they turn out to be flat, since the paper is crumpled under mechanical stress.
How to make a housekeeper from newspaper tubes
The key keeper is performed similarly to the box, but only with the condition that the base in this case is not a horizontal, but a vertical plane. That is, weaving does not take place upwards, but as if to the side. But, during the creation of the product, it does not matter.
Owl
To make such an element of the interior as a housekeeper, you can use a wide variety of ideas.
A wicker owl looks original, which can be seated on a natural wooden twig. To realize such a product, it is enough to make a pattern from cardboard elements. And then, using them, create separate elements that will be fastened together. Simultaneously with the hooks that are placed on the belly of the bird, you can make a deep pocket from the belly, in which you can put larger things.
It is worth remembering that the more detailed the image is, the prettier such a housekeeper in the form of an owl will look.
Funny houses
This option is simpler, since a flat image of houses is woven. Their number in the overall composition can vary depending on how many things will need to be hung on hooks.
The hooks themselves are attached after the image of the houses is obtained.
These instructions will help you weave any product from tubes twisted from sheets of a magazine or newspaper without much difficulty.
