DIY flower stand

Flowers in a room are much more than just an aesthetic appearance. With their help, you can create an atmosphere of comfort and warmth, add style and simply dilute the world of artificial finishing materials. However, it is important not only to purchase a flower pot with beautiful contents, but also to position it correctly, to choose a suitable place.

Buy or do it yourself

Probably, every housewife asked herself this question at least once in her life. Today we offer a decent assortment of stands for flowers of all shapes and sizes. The only trouble is that beautiful and stylish models are not cheap, and you don't always want to buy an affordable stand.

Today the choice of flower stands is huge. You can choose any design to your taste and color, focusing on your interior.

Another argument in favor of a do-it-yourself stand is the size. Agree, most often there is very little space left for such interior items, and standard stands are hardly placed in a confined space. Therefore, hand-made items are simply irreplaceable in such conditions.

Finally, today in needlework stores there are many all kinds of accessories and decor elements, thanks to which you can make a real work of art, and not just a stand from improvised materials of dubious appearance.

Varieties of stands

Stands can be wall-mounted or floor-mounted, and depending on the material from which they are made, there are wood, metal or plastic.

A fairly common option is a model consisting of a metal frame and wooden shelves. The number of shelves and the dimensions of the frame may vary depending on your personal preference.

The main advantage of such a model is the possibility of placing it in a small area. In addition, these shelves look beautiful on open terraces or glazed balconies. At the same time, a stand for indoor flowers can have an additional shelf for various little things.

The metal shelf looks great on the veranda and is not afraid of different weather conditions.

Another type is a shelf fixed to the floor and ceiling. Typically, these models are installed in spacious living rooms or halls. The shelf is made of metal, and the flower holders are also metal.

Stand-screen is in demand. It is made in the form of several horizontal strips, between which holders for flower pots are fixed. The material for such a model is wood or metal. Indispensable for small rooms or studio apartments in which space zoning is required.

An interesting nuance: on such holders you can place a variety of indoor flowers: both spectacular greenery and flowering plants. The main thing is that the pots "fit" tightly.

If space allows, install a voluminous flower stand in the living room. In this case, the accessory will perfectly cope with the role of a spectacular accent. Often this type of flower holder has a base on wheels so that, if necessary, the stand can be easily transported around the room.

What material to choose

As already mentioned, a do-it-yourself stand has a lot of advantages: it fits exactly into the style you need, the perfect size, the best color scheme. Finally, you will be able to design something unusual and unique of its kind. But there is also a downside to the coin: not every material can be used at home, in a typical apartment.

For example, metal. The material is easy to use, has excellent technical characteristics, however, welding is required to create metal interior items, and therefore a separate workshop. And before you start serious work, you need to create a drawing.

A simpler option is a thick wire stand. The main advantage is considered "livability" with any style of interior. The color scheme can be very different.

The main thing is to show your imagination and your interior will sparkle with completely new colors.

Planters attached to the wall are perfect for ampelous plants. It often happens that the pot itself and the wire attachment are completely invisible, and only spectacular greenery is obvious. You can attach the wire stands both to the wall and to the ceiling.

Compared to metal, plastic is much easier to work with, it is easy to deform, it can be used to create stands for flowers of the most unusual shapes, and plastic does not deteriorate from water. But there is a significant drawback: the material is not durable, too heavy plants are simply "too tough for such a holder". Another drawback is the dubious environmental friendliness of the material. When exposed to direct sunlight, plastic releases harmful substances.

plastic shelves
Plastic shelves are lightweight and simple, but short-lived.

And yet, if the above features of plastic did not scare you, it is quite possible to make an interesting flower stand from PVC pipes. There are no rules for such hand-made, create sizes and shapes that you like and that will complement the design of the room (or even the garden). By the way, not only stands for flowers are made from PVC pipes, but also clothes hangers, organizers for stationery and much more.

Required tools

Depending on the material chosen, you will need different tools.

For metal

Immediately, we note that in addition to special tools, certain skills are required to work with metal. Of the tools, the main role is given to the welding machine. To trim individual elements, you need a cutter, jigsaw or metal scissors. All tools must be made of durable stainless steel. Also, for fastening individual parts, drills and an electric drill are often required.

Metal wire is a slightly different story and can be bent with bare hands if desired. And if your wire has an impressive diameter, then use pliers and wire cutters.

Wooden structures

In order to make the simplest wooden stand with your own hands, you will need a minimum set of tools: a hammer, nails, a drill. In order to shape the wooden "semi-finished products" you can use a circular saw. Also, the circular is indispensable in the case when you need to make a hole into which the pot will then be inserted.

With a planer, the wood surface is sanded, and with a jigsaw, you can create delicate lace shapes. Of course, ideally, it is better to use electrical appliances, however, if you are not a professional craftsman, you are unlikely to have such a set in stock.

Plastic

Perhaps this material will require a minimum set of tools: wire cutters, scissors, drill and hacksaw. And in order for the plastic to form, it is recommended to heat it up, and this can be done either with a regular hair dryer or over a gas burner. Sometimes, when working with plastic, super-strong glue is needed, but this is not always the case.

The flower stand can become an effective accent in the interior of any room. At the same time, it is not at all necessary that it will perform only a decorative role: in the kitchen you can put pots with herbs in it, and in the spacious living room you can place flowers with a pleasant aroma. But what kind of stand will be appropriate in your case - it's up to you to decide: either a stylish and expensive item from the store, or a budget, but unique hand-made model.
