How to install a dishwasher in a finished kitchen
Manufacturers of household appliances nowadays offer many devices that can significantly facilitate the work of a housewife. Washing dishes takes most of the time and also consumes a lot of energy. And this is where the dishwasher comes to the rescue. But when buying it, problems arise - where to put it.
If you have a large and spacious kitchen, then in such a situation the question rests on the presence of a ready-made and used kitchen set. And if the kitchen is small, as in most of our apartments, then in addition to the headset, the banal lack of the necessary space also creates a problem.
Dishwasher installation features
If the dishwasher is installed separately, then a little space can be allocated for it on the floor or on one of the tables. Otherwise, if the unit can be built in, then one of the cabinets will have to be sacrificed. However, built-in appliances do not overload the kitchen interior with technical details and are generally invisible, hiding behind one of the facades.
Seat selection
How to integrate a dishwasher into a finished kitchen? Which kitchen cabinet should you donate for the new unit? Take a tape measure and measure the available cabinets. And the overall dimensions of the device planned for purchase will not be difficult to find out - they can be viewed on the manufacturer's website or on the website of the online store. But it should be borne in mind that the sizes of these devices are standardized.
There are two types of dishwashers: wide and narrow. The first ones are slightly less than 60 cm wide, and the second ones - 45 cm. Naturally, for a small-sized kitchen, the narrow version looks more preferable. But don't forget about other parameters - height and depth. Often, custom-made headsets can differ from the standards in the height of the table top and the depth of the cabinets. Therefore, at this stage, you must be extremely careful, because a small error of only 1 cm can make the installation of the device impossible.
It is possible to use 2 furniture blocks at once, however, then you will have to decide how to fix the dishwasher between the cabinets.
Important! It is impossible for the machine to fit end-to-end in depth; a margin of a few centimeters is required for connecting hoses and wires.
It is worth noting that there are also more compact models that differ in height. As a rule, such options are recommended to be built into furniture modules that are not located on the floor, but higher - in the second row.
What you need to install
When choosing the location of the dishwasher, you need to take into account exactly where the plumbing pipes pass in your kitchen and there are electrical outlets. If the electrical wire, in principle, is not difficult to lead from the outlet to any place in the kitchen, then great difficulties can arise with the supply of water and sewer pipes, especially if the kitchen has long been renovated and a set has been installed. That is why, first of all, it is necessary to consider options for installing the machine next to the sink.
How to integrate a dishwasher
There are several ways to install the dishwasher. Any of them is associated with certain problems during installation, but by following the recommendations and requirements of the manufacturer specified in the technical passport, you can avoid all problems. Let's consider below the most common and most acceptable installation options.
Cabinet integration
The dishwasher is installed in the finished kitchen in the following order.
- In the selected furniture block, it is necessary to dismantle the inner filling and the rear paneling. Depending on the model of the dishwasher, it may be necessary to dismantle the bottom panel of the furniture unit.
- After that, adjusting the legs on the body of the device, it must be installed vertically, for which use the building level.
- Next, connect the dishwasher to the drain, supply cold water and connect the power supply. If necessary, it is possible to install a water seal on the drain.
- The front panel is attached last. You can assemble it yourself from the removed doors of the furniture block, or contact a specialized workshop for custom-made.
There are partially built-in models of dishwashers. In this case, no front panel installation is required, which simplifies the installation process.
Installation in a free-standing unit
If the kitchen area is large enough, and you do not have suitable cabinets, then you can consider the option of installing a free-standing furniture module. In this case, you need to contact the furniture company to order the appropriate cabinet. It is best to place it near the sink for access to communications.
Connect the drain and water by routing the hoses along the wall. Supply electricity. After that, it is necessary to fix the dishwasher so that during operation it does not move its new module due to vibrations. At the last stage, fix the front panel of the furniture module, if necessary.
Installation in a niche
If your kitchen unit has a designated place in the form of a niche for placing a microwave or oven there, then a dishwasher can also be mounted in this place. For such niches on the market, special compact models are offered. However, if such a place is located far from the sink, then you will have to deal with laying hoses for supplying cold water and discharging used water.
The front of such a machine can also be closed with a decorative facade in the general style of the kitchen.Although such a small machine requires little space, its performance is also low, so this option is not suitable for a large family.
What to do if embedding doesn't work
If you can't find a place in your kitchen for an integrated dishwasher, then a separate model is one option. This option does not require any special installation. Just install it on the table top and connect to the communications.
There are, of course, other alternatives. For example, you can mount the bezel trim on a freestanding machine. You can also do a complete reconstruction of the kitchen set with the allocation of the right place or move the plumbing communications to another place, but all this requires a lot of money, as well as time and effort.
How to install the built-in model
Manufacturers of household appliances describe in detail the entire process of its installation and inclusion in the accompanying instructions for use. And dishwashers are no exception in this case.
The installation process can be divided into several steps, typical for any model.
The first step is to prepare for installation. Take care in advance of supplying electricity to the installation site. To connect to the pipes, you also need to purchase some spare parts, as well as a sealant, fumlent or ordinary tow. Check for the required tools. You will most likely need a hammer, screwdriver, or screwdriver.
Checking the complete set of PMM
The next step is to unpack and check the package contents.
Important! Check the package contents in the presence of sellers or couriers. This will allow you to avoid unwanted problems, because if an incompleteness is detected, it will be promptly corrected for you.
After unpacking, find the instruction manual, which always contains a list of all accessories. Check actual availability against this list.
The instruction must be in Russian. In addition, well-known companies in most cases describe the installation process on their official Internet sites.
Most often, dishwasher sets include:
- built-in protective rubber apron;
- water connection and drain hoses;
- necessary gaskets;
- rubber apron attached to the bottom of the car door;
- a metal plate or film to protect the inside of the countertop from steam;
- a template for installing bezels;
- fasteners.
Installation in place
- Once again, make sure the location you choose is the right size for your dishwasher. There must be a place for routing hoses in the sides of the furniture module or in the back.
- After that, you can start the installation process. It is necessary to place the unit opposite the place of installation, and route the hoses already connected to it in the places intended for them in the walls or behind the furniture block.
- Next, you need to push the car in and make sure that the hoses reach the communications you need. The same goes for an electrical wire with an outlet.
- Pull the dishwasher back and proceed with the installation of all mounting elements such as mounting and vapor protection plates, dampers, sealing tapes.
- When all the elements are in place, then you can start installing the faceplates. To do this, use the doors or drawer fronts removed from the furniture block. Adjust them to size and secure them to the front of the machine using the long self-tapping screws usually provided.
Sewer connection
When connecting a dishwasher to the sewer, two options arise:
- Connecting the drain hose to the drainage pipe. This is possible if the sewer pipe has a free hole under the jay;
- Connecting the hose from the dishwasher to the sink drain. Here, options are possible with the installation of an additional water seal.
Water connection
Tapping into the pipe is usually done with a suitable tee. It is imperative to install a tap that turns off the water. This is useful for repair work. Any threaded connection must be sealed with tow or fumlent, you can, of course, use a sealant, but this is not recommended, since after it dries, the connection will be very difficult to disassemble.
It is imperative to install a filter on the hose that provides cold water. Its absence can lead to rapid damage to the dishwasher.
Important! If your dishwasher model provides for the supply of both hot and cold water, we recommend connecting only cold water.
This is due to the fact that in the overwhelming majority of houses it is impossible to regulate the temperature of hot water. In addition, there are no cleaning filters for hot water.
Electrical connection
The use of extension cords or surge protectors is not recommended, and the standard for dishwasher is a 1.5m power cord. Therefore, if you do not have an outlet near the installation site, then it is recommended to conduct it there. Ideally, this should be a separate line equipped with a circuit breaker.
Important! During any work with electricity, it is necessary to de-energize the entire apartment.
How to choose the right dishwasher
To choose a dishwasher, first of all, you need to decide on its dimensions, and therefore on the place of its installation. In addition, pay attention to the power consumption and water consumption during operation. If the speed of obtaining clean dishes is important to you, then consider options equipped with a turbo dryer. Self-cleaning of the filter is also a useful function, otherwise you will periodically have to pull it out and wash it by hand.
Installing a dishwasher in your kitchen will make your daily work easier. Any member of your family can handle it. Therefore, a kitchen with a dishwasher is the dream of every housewife.
