How to make a plaid from plush yarn
A knitted plush blanket will embrace with its tenderness and softness at any time of the year. On a summer evening it will be fresh and light in it, in a cool autumn it will be cozy in it, and in winter it will warm you with its soulfulness.
This feature is due to the volume of yarn and knitting, due to which the product retains both heat and coolness well. This is why they are so good for newborns. Even a beginner or a child can knit such a model.
How to make a plush blanket
Plush yarns are different from other types of knitting yarns. As a rule, it is made from hypoallergenic materials: micropolyester, wool, bamboo, viscose. The material has special properties: bulk and fluffiness. The pile length of plush yarn is about 0.5 centimeters, so it looks quite thick and tousled. And products, on the contrary, are light and delicate from it.
Due to its volume, the material practically does not conduct heat, which is why it is cool in hot weather and warm in frost. It is because of this property: to maintain the microclimate around the human body, knitted blankets and plush clothes are suitable for newborns.
At the same time, the threads are very flexible and fit well. Hinges from them do not deform and do not stretch. In addition, the loops are very large - about 2 cm in height and width. This means that you can knit the product very quickly.
This makes it very easy to knit a plush blanket. Moreover, the knitting tool can be any:
- Spokes
- Hook
- Own fingers
Usually, knitting plush is sold with a number of loops already dialed. It is easier to work with it with your hands or for novice craftswomen. Also sold separately without looped yarns.
Selection of tools and materials
First, you need to decide on the material. Since plush consists of different natural or synthetic materials, then when choosing, you should think in advance for what things the material is purchased for. For summer knitted patterns, materials with a high content of micropolyester, bamboo or cotton are suitable. For winter options, it is better to choose the option with a high wool or cotton content. Yarns made of acrylic or rayon material are the most resistant to washing and less prone to dirt.
In addition to the yarn itself, you will need tools. This can be hook number 4 or larger. Hook number 8 will make the model too bulky - such a product will be more suitable for adults or children from 5 years old. If you need to make a product for a baby, then it is better to choose a hook from the 4th to the 6th number. It is the hook that remains the simplest and most convenient tool for such yarn for several reasons:
- Doesn't require all loops to be held
- It can be easily replaced with your fingers
- Knitting can be easily postponed and returned to it
- Plaid is easy to knit in any setting
In addition to the hook, you can use knitting needles. It is better to choose knitting needles with a long fishing line. Tools must be at least 5 mm thick. Instead of knitting needles or a crochet hook, you can use your fingers or hands for knitting, knitting the loops with them like a crochet.
Calculation of the amount of yarn
Plush yarn is very thick, so even small skeins can be knitted into a large product. Usually, for 100 cm or 1 meter of fabric, 50 loops in length and width are obtained. This will require about 5 skeins of 100 grams. Usually, such skeins are immediately formed in sets for knitting a model of 1 mx 1 m.For larger blankets or for other products, it is necessary to take threads at the rate of 100 g per 20 cm of fluffy knit or 50 g per 20 cm less dense knit.
Crochet patterns
The material for the plush bedspread is sold both with pre-assembled loops and in the form of simple skeins. Both types can be used for crocheting. If yarns are purchased in skeins without loops, then the product should be started with an air chain. Usually the length of the chain is made at the rate of 50 loops per 100 cm, but denser knitting is also possible. However, it should be borne in mind that the lower the knitting density, the lighter the product will be.
Zigzag Pattern
Zigzag is a very colorful and at the same time simple pattern. From the outside it looks very impressive, but it is created quite simply. The pattern can be knitted in two, three or even four colors.
Crochet plush yarn blanket is knitted according to the pattern with the description:
- The first row is air loops.
- The second row is knitted with double crochets. At the same time, for every 8 loops, a bending line of the pattern is made, that is, three columns are knitted together. Then, after 8 loops, three double crochets are knitted, on the contrary, from one air loop. According to this pattern, three or four rows are knitted.
- Then the color changes and the pattern repeats.
- Thus, the fabric with a change of colors is knitted to the end.
Pillars
The stitch pattern is knitted even more simply than the zigzag pattern. A step-by-step description of the manufacture of such a canvas:
- Create the required number of air loops.
- Next, knit each row with double crochets, loop into loop.
- If desired, you can alternate colors, which will be even more colorful.
Check Marks
The checkmark pattern is quite simple, but it creates a very colorful canvas. A step-by-step scheme for creating such a baby blanket:
- Create a chain of simple loops.
- Next, a row in one air loop is knitted with two double crochets, between which there is another air loop. In this case, this bundle is tied every two air loops of the lower row.
- The next step is done according to the scheme: in each air loop there are 2 double crochets and one air element.
- This creates the required number of steps. If desired, you can change the color of the yarn, which will make the bedspread more colorful.
Pattern "Grandma's Square"
A children's plaid crocheted from plush yarn according to a more complex pattern can be knitted using the "Grandmother's Square". This product is not created from end to end, but from the center along the squares. First, individual squares are tied. There can be 3-4 types of them. In total, you need 4-5 rows of 4-5 squares.
The scheme for making squares is simple:
- 3 air elements are closed in a circle. Then a row of 4 patterns is knitted: 3 double crochets, 2 air loops.
- The next step: the same elements, but there are already 8 of them.
- On the next row, the number of elements increases to 12 pieces, and then to 16. In this case, all double crochets are knitted from the air loops of the previous row.
- If you alternate the colors of the yarn, you get a very variegated pattern that resembles a patchwork quilt.
- After creating the elements, they need to be tied into one canvas.
Decorating
The last step in creating a colorful and exclusive bedspread or blanket is its decor. Without it, the product will look too simple and uncomfortable. On the contrary, with unusual decorative elements, the model will become truly royal.
Decoration options:
- Brushes in the corners of the same material
- Fringe around the perimeter
- Perimeter lace ruffles
- Huge rhinestones with a diameter of 5-8 cm
- Pompons on canvas
Another unusual and non-standard decoration: yarn pom-poms with lavender bags sewn into them. Such decor will be not only visual, but also aromatic. The scent of lavender will create a wonderful relaxing atmosphere and will soothe any child. And such a blanket will relieve an elderly person from insomnia and anxiety.
