Vanish for cleaning upholstered furniture at home
Upholstered furniture - sofas, armchairs, chairs - creates coziness and comfort in any interior. But its main drawback is rapid pollution. Especially if such interior elements are in the living room or in the dining area, then greasy stains, as well as traces of wine and coffee, become a bitter reality. How can I fix the situation with Vanish Furniture Cleaner?
Advantages and disadvantages of a cleaning agent
Vanish is a recognized leader in the fight against stains on upholstered furniture. However, when using it, it is important to consider the following:
- He does not tolerate "neighborhood" with other cleaning and detergents (powders, gels or sprays). If you mix Vanish with anything in order to enhance its cleaning effect, it loses its properties.
- Allergies may appear on some of the components that make up the product.
- Vanish is sold only in specialized stores and supermarkets, which means that it is not possible to purchase it for residents of remote villages.
- The price of the product is an order of magnitude higher than that of other cleaning, but less effective preparations.
However, those who once used Vanish and were convinced of its effectiveness from their own experience, all of the above disadvantages do not seem so serious. Any stains can be removed in one, maximum two applications. There is no need to rub the stained upholstery for hours, or, like the medieval alchemist, mix all kinds of means and preparations.
Moreover, Vanish products are offered in a sufficient assortment, and you can choose the one that suits you ideally (maximum convenience and no side reactions) and your furniture.
Preparation
It is a mistake to believe that if Vanish is such an amazing and effective remedy, then, having bought it in a store, you should immediately apply foam (powder, liquid) to the contaminated areas.
The upholstery needs to be prepared. First of all, wipe the dirty area with a damp cloth and let it dry. If there are dried pieces of dirt on the surface, they need to be scraped off with a plastic spatula or a regular spoon.
Then vacuum the surface. For this purpose, it is better to use a special furniture nozzle, thanks to which you can "penetrate" into all corners and hard-to-reach places of the structure. For best results, clean with the maximum power of the vacuum cleaner.
Then it is recommended to cover the sofa with a damp cloth (you can use a sheet or duvet cover). This is necessary not only for cleaning furniture, but also so that the dust in the upholstered furniture does not scatter around the room. If you notice that the furniture gives off an unpleasant smell, then soak a cloth in a mild vinegar solution. You can also use a soapy solution.
Now the furniture needs to be beaten off well. This must be done very carefully, because some fabrics (silk, velor, cambric) can be damaged as a result of this procedure. It is better if, during the beating process, you change the damp cloth several times by rinsing it in clean water. In this case, cleaning will be more effective. The furniture should be beaten off until the fabric remains clean.
Well, just before applying the product, it is recommended to moisten the upholstery a little.
If your goal is not only to remove dirt, but also to keep the upholstery safe and sound, follow these simple rules:
- Never use hard or metal brushes.
- Do not use several cleaning agents at the same time, even if they belong to the same line, because each preparation contains its own "set" of active substances. This mix can lead to unpredictable results. For example, the fabric can shed, or worse, the product can corrode it.
- Do not hurry. This advice is relevant in many ways and cleaning upholstered furniture is no exception. After applying the product to the stain, leave it for 5 - 10 minutes, let it penetrate inside the stain and "work" a little. Only then wash off.
- After finishing the stain removal procedure, ventilate the area and let the furniture dry completely.
- Not only read the instructions for use of the drug, but also strictly follow it. Even if you have already used a similar (although, in this case, this definition is very relative), a tool from another company or in another version. Instructions are there to be followed. Measure the amount of the drug carefully and keep the time exactly.
- If, after processing, white stains remain on the upholstery, simply wipe them off with a damp cloth.
By following these simple guidelines, you have every chance of getting rid of the contamination in one go.
Important! Before cleaning, apply the product to an inconspicuous area and test the reaction of the fabric. Pay attention to whether the color has changed, as well as the condition of the villi. If no changes have occurred, feel free to start cleaning. Otherwise, stop using the drug and look for other ways to get rid of the stains on the upholstery.
Instructions for use
The procedure for using the funds depends on the form in which it is issued. Today Vanish is available in the following options:
Shampoo
An excellent product suitable not only for cleaning upholstered furniture, but also for carpets and tapestries. Available in 450 ml and 750 ml bottles. The algorithm of actions is as follows: 2-3 caps of the product are diluted in 5-7 liters of water. Whip up a thick foam and apply to the contaminated area.
Leave for at least 10-15 minutes, and then remove with a cloth, soft sponge, washing vacuum cleaner. The main advantage of the drug is economical consumption, one bottle will be enough for you for a long time.
Composition for washing vacuum cleaners
Usually it is used for cleaning carpets, however, if it is not possible to purchase a special shampoo, then the composition can also be used to clean the upholstery of upholstered furniture. This product provides good lather and penetrates deep into the fibers.
Antibacterial hand shampoo
The peculiarity of this tool is that it well removes not only stains, but also stubborn odors. This is especially true if there are pets in the house. In addition, the drug has antibacterial properties, which is also important.
Powder for cleaning furniture
It is used in cases where the surface is sensitive to damp environments. The product is diluted to a thick gruel and applied to the contaminated area, left for 5-10 minutes, and then simply brushed off.
Spray stain remover
The easiest product to use. It only needs to be sprayed over the contaminated surface, and then wiped with a napkin. Great for removing tea, wine or felt-tip pens. But it is effective only when working with fresh dirt.
Application features for different types of coatings
Today, upholstery for upholstered furniture is made from a wide variety of materials. And each of them needs an individual approach. This is also true for the use of Vanish funds.
Tissue
Cloth upholstery is cleaned in the same way as clothing:
- 1 spoon of the substance is diluted with 2.5 liters of water.
- Apply on dirt and leave for 3-4 hours.
- If the stain is old, then Vanish gel or powder is first applied and lightly rubbed with a brush or sponge.
To avoid damaging the fabric, use a vacuum cleaner or steam cleaner.
Leather
The tool is also diluted in water, only a more gentle preparation is used - shampoo, for example. And they apply it to the contaminated surface with a steam cleaner. Then allow the surface to dry naturally.
Suede
Suede is one of the most "capricious" materials, it requires a special approach, which means that it must be processed very carefully. In order not to spoil the pile, use an active foam or spray. After the product is applied to the surface, rub it into the dirty area with gentle circular motions. A suede brush works best for this procedure.
After processing the suede surface, let it dry naturally without using a vacuum cleaner.
Velor
The velor cover is also very susceptible to any careless movements, therefore, such upholstery is cleaned exclusively by hand, without a steam cleaner and vacuum cleaner. Only active foam is used as a detergent. It is applied to the contaminated area, and then treated with a soft sponge in the direction of the pile bevel.
Flock
Before getting rid of dirt on the flock coating, the surface is cleaned with a vacuum cleaner. Use only rubber cap! Greasy or blood stains are removed with active foams or a spray. The product is applied to the contaminated area, and then gently scrubbed from the edges to the center. This is done in order not to smudge the dirt and not to increase the size of the stain.
After treatment with cleaning agents, wipe the flock with dry napkins, "helping" the surface to dry.
Removing stains of different origins
Although Vanish for furniture is considered a universal remedy, nevertheless, it is recommended to choose different types of this drug for different surfaces. The main selection criteria are the size of the spot, the type of contamination and the time of its appearance (fresh or old). The answers to these questions will affect both surface pretreatment and product selection.
Greasy stains
Unfortunately, this category of stains is the most common. Remember a simple rule: when a greasy stain appears (if something greasy has been dropped or spilled on the upholstery), it should be sprinkled with salt immediately. The main thing is not to allow the fat to penetrate into the fibers of the upholstery and filler, otherwise it will be extremely difficult to remove it. Use Vanish spray: apply it to the dirty area, attach a dry cloth and iron with an iron without steam.
If neither salt nor starch was at hand, and the stain has eaten into the upholstery and filler, then use Vanish in powder form. Make a thick slurry, apply to the stain and leave for 5 minutes. For very old stains, it is recommended to use an antibacterial shampoo - wipe the stained area with a sponge dipped in shampoo. Wash off the rest of the product with plain water.
Advice: it is recommended to dilute the powder with warm water. Thanks to this, the product dissolves better in water, and also has better cleaning properties.
Milk stains
Remember that the milky environment is an excellent breeding ground for all kinds of bacteria, which means that by "planting" a milk stain on upholstered furniture, you not only spoiled the appearance of the interior item, but also endangered it. In this case, it is imperative to use an antibacterial shampoo, or a cleaner for vacuum cleaners.
In addition to the obligatory chemical treatment, upholstered furniture with milky contamination must be well dried. If you have a washing vacuum cleaner, it is better to use it. The faster the upholstered furniture dries, the more likely it is that the sofa (armchairs, chairs) will not start to whine. And if after processing an unpleasant odor appears, the procedure will have to be repeated.
Wine
Port wine stains are considered one of the most difficult to remove. In fairness, it should be noted that troubles can be caused not only by red wine, but also by its white “relative”. Of course, in the latter case, the stains will not be so saturated, but they will still leave their mark on the history of your upholstered furniture. And if such pollution is not always possible to remove from the tablecloth, what can we say about the upholstery of upholstered furniture.
You need to act as follows:
- Immediately blot the stain with a tissue and rub lightly to keep the liquid from penetrating deep into the fabric and filler.
- Sprinkle salt on top and leave for 10-15 minutes, this will allow the remaining liquid to absorb.
- Brush off the salt with a soft brush.
- Wipe the dirty area with a dry cloth.
- Apply Vanish shampoo to the stain and rub lightly with a sponge.
Leave the furniture to dry completely, and then carefully inspect - if the stain still remains, repeat the procedure with shampoo.
Coffee
Unfortunately, a drink loved by many is able not only to delight with an exquisite taste, but also to deliver a lot of unpleasant troubles if it gets on upholstered furniture. These stains are also classified as difficult to remove. The biggest challenge is the freshly brewed coffee. In addition to the coloring pigment, it contains the smallest particles of ground coffee that get stuck between the fibers of the upholstery.
However, even such serious pollution is not a problem for Vanish shampoo. Whip up a thick shampoo lather, apply it to the soiled area and leave it to work for a few minutes. Then wipe the area with a damp cloth (sponge). If the stain is old, then after the above procedures, wipe the stained area with a cloth soaked in an aqueous solution of shampoo.
Fruit stains
This is another "headache" for housewives. Jam or fruit puree stains are considered the most difficult to remove. To get rid of them with improvised means, experienced housewives usually used ammonia. It was diluted in a certain proportion with water and the stained upholstery of upholstered furniture was wiped with the resulting composition. This method had a lot of disadvantages.
First of all, not everyone can endure the unpleasant smell of ammonia, and since the cleaning procedure lasted long enough, only the most persistent withstood such an execution. In addition, after cleaning with ammonia, it was necessary to ventilate the room and wait for the unpleasant smell to disappear from the surface of the furniture.
In addition, after a long rubbing, the furniture upholstery looked pretty shabby. And even if there were no stains on it, the sofa (armchairs or chairs) subsequently had to be covered with something to make the interior more aesthetic.
Vanish means will save you from the above inconveniences. The preparations do not have a heavy unpleasant odor, and during the cleaning process you do not have to rub too much, disrupting the structure of the upholstery. Even old stains with Vanish disappear after the first, in rare cases after the second use of the product.
Marker and ballpoint pen
The main "advantage", if I may say so at all, of ink stains from a ballpoint pen and a marker is that the dye composition does not penetrate deep into the fabric, and this greatly facilitates the cleaning process. Vanish spray is used to remove such contaminants. The product is applied to the contaminated surface and wiped with a dry cloth.
If the spray is not at hand, you can use an aqueous solution of any Vanish drug. Moisten a sponge in the prepared composition and rub the dirty area with light movements.
Blood
The main thing is not to leave the removal of blood stains for later. The sooner you start removing them, the more likely you are to emerge from this war stained victorious.
Take a napkin and soak it in a cold solution of any Vanish product. Rub gently without pressing hard. As a rule, fresh spots disappear before the eyes.
If you had to get rid of stubborn stains, then use a powder. Dilute it with a little water until a thick slurry is obtained and apply to the stained area. Leave the product to "work" for 4-5 minutes, and then shake off the rest of the powder from the surface. Rinse the fabric well with water.
Using Vanish to remove stains from the upholstery of upholstered furniture at home is an opportunity to preserve the original appearance of interior items for as long as possible. Follow the instructions exactly and the result will pleasantly surprise you.
